CaedisSetup.sh an Ubuntu Initialization Script

Ubuntu Linux 9.04 (can also be used after an Ubuntu version upgrade to 9.04)

Here is a setup script I made a while back that I continually update so I don't have to remember what I have installed.

The script has 2 stages. The first updates your system and patches it to the latest version. After that it installs wine and a few other utils I use frequently.

More importantly it does all that without prompting the user, it's designed to be an un-attended install.

The second stage (CaedisSetup-2.sh) simply runs winetricks quietly and installs all the packages with little user involvement. This means less clicking [next] and [finish]

To use:

Download the tar.gz file to your home directory (a compressed archive with higher compression than Zip)

Go get the CaedisSetup.tar.gz
Go to command line (Accessories > Terminal)
type

tar -xvf CaedisSetup.tar.gz
sudo ./CaedisSetup-1.sh

If the script ran properly it will say:

Please run CaedisSetup-2.sh as NON-root now

so type

./CaedisSetup-2.sh

That's it! :beer:

Since you will be running one of these files as root, it could be dangerous if a third party hacked OCforums and changed the files. So for this reason I have included a .sig file which can be used with GPG to validate the tar file.
Please go to My Launchpad Account or my ClaimID account for my public key. to validate. In this way you can absolutely guarantee that the file is from me. Of course, if you don't want to do that, you can audit all the lines of code in each of the 4 files.

Confused.....something wrong here....
I downloaded the Tar file to my desktop.. cut and pasted the command you gave and:
(also tried moving the file to my Home Folder - same thing)

The problem lies with the tar extraction. The first command never succeeded because it didn't see that the file was present in your home directory. Make sure you saved CaedisSetup.tar.gz in your home directory, not your desktop.

i found the problem, your file (that we can DL)
is not capitalized
so i had to cap. the to letters to match the code...

I'm no idiot, and I'm no con. I state the risks up front and warn the user to perform code validation BEFORE running external code.

There is Interaction required for one part so far.

HDDtemp Daemon run at boot prompt requires User involvement.

The ONLY concern I have is that you are linking to another location to prove you are you, a sensilbe malcontent would simply change those pointers as well.

But my key file is hosted on my blog as well. And anyone who's seen any of my posts knows my domain is caedis.net

Following that little bit of info you can easily conclude beyond ANY shadow of a doubt that the file is sourced from me.

If they can hijack my domain? well... theres nothing I can do if they can break my passwords.... but I'm not worried

+1.. I think you should just post the script here a explain users how to save it and run it. So u dont have the donwload a file. and at least that way they know what the script has
