Looks good. Maybe you could post your current BIOS settings to help others w/ the same MB and chip. Here's a BIOS template if you're interested...

Grnfinger. XS is down still!
I have just installed a 9650 and running at 4Ghz with 6Gb 8500 dominator.
Can you please post a 4.2 set up?

Rgds Matt

lol whats up Grnfinger. XS being down for 3+ days now is kind of starting to get on my nerves. The flipping 500FSB guide is in the P45 King thread...none of which I have copied. I ordered a i7, 6gb GSkill, Rampage II off Newegg this weekend. Another P45 King follower is giving up for greener pastures.

Was lonely and drifted back here from my A8N-SLI rig, XS seems to be having troubles upgrading to SSD
Will post up a 4.2 GHZ in a few

Seems we have alot XS ppl floating around
I have had enough of "what if" with this board also, I have a Rampage comming in the mail, waiting for i7 till mid June

nice! have you tried PL9 with clock twister on light or moderate?

No have not tweaked memory yet, still getting the chip stable, core 2 keeps dropping. adjusting GTL's in hopes to compensate

Thanks Grnfinger.

Looking forward to 4.2 on the Quad. I found it was better on the 8400 that the 9650 replaced but the 8400 bios settings dont work!!

I have updated bios to 1901 from 1307 also.

Matt

Thanks for the awesome guidelines Grnfinger :)
Been tinkering with my new (to me) MaxII and q9650 for a week now and now I see where I went wrong!
Much appreciated!

Hi. Im fairly new to overclocking and i wanted to overclock my q9650 aswell.
I tried the settings at the below and got through to windows but after a few seconds later it crashed and gave a blue screen memory dump i belive...
I need help as i do not know what am i doing wrong exactly...

The specifications are as follows:

  • ASUS Maximus II Formula P45 1600MHz DDR2 16x
  • INTEL C2QUAD Q9650 3.00GHz 1333MHz 12MB 64BIT 775p
  • SAPPHIRE ATI HD4870X2(256Bit)2GB DDR5 AVIVO 16X
  • LG W2486L-PF 24" 2ms DVI HDMI (LED, 1920x1080)
  • OCZ Reaper 2 GB 1066 MHz CL5 DDR2 Kit(2x1GB) x2
  • Thermaltake Toughpower Qfan 750W
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
All tucked in a "Thermaltake XaserVI Silver FullTower VG4000SWA" case.

And the BIOS settings that i used:

Thanks for the help in advance :)

The reason for the crash seems to be about your DRAM Frequency. try to use a frequency below 1066mhz. i have the same Board and Cpu and in my case this solved the problem.

Hello All

I'm finally going to try my hands on some O.C!
I'm not new to computers but I've never done any overclocking before, but then I found this site :)

As you can see I still have a 775 setup, and here are the specs:

Asus Maximus II Formula P45
No extra cooling except two Noctua 140mm intake fans, and two Noctua 140mm exhaust fans

Intel Q9650 3,0Ghz C0
With Corsair H70 cooling.

8 Gb Corsair Dominator GT PC8500 DDR2-1066 CL5-5-5-15 C5
Without the cooling fans.

Sapphire 5970 O.C. Edition
With A.C. Accelero Xtreme 5970 full cover cooling block with x 3 92mm fans.
(Will upgrade to Sapphire 6990 soon, if I can find one…)

Corsair HX750W

Corsair Vertex2 120Gb

So my question is; can I just set about punching in the numbers and settings from this tread with this setup?
The reason I'm asking is because my memory is different...
