Took it off with some unconventional tools, and it took about 3 hours. The fully story and pictures to follow tomorrow when I'm more awake. And yes, the IHS was soldered on.

By unconventional, did you mean a cinder block?
I am interested if this worked though.

He used a dremel then got tired and used a blowtorch, then dumped LN2 on it, then hit it with a hammer.

No, I already tried that. The cinder block is a bit too heavy. I'll try a slump block next. If that's too heavy, then I'll settle for just a standard, red brick.
 
makes me wanna do it to mine, maybe when i get a q9450 i might try such a thing, but most likely not..

can't wait for results.. hope there good!
 
lol, can't you just use a razor blade on the glue and then use a small torch to desolder the cores....
