My HP NX7400 fan insists on staying on low until its about 83c on the processor. I thought that was a bit extreme and I wanted to adjust the fan. After looking for a long time I finally found the Notebook Hardware Control program.

NHC plus some great scripts found on that sites forum:

made controlling the ACPI possible. Works like a charm and there are several scrips written for HP and Compaq notebooks.

The site is in German, but you can use Babel Fish to translate the entire site no problem.

Thankyou for that second link, I may finally figure out how to control the ACPI on my lappie (which would make me very happy)

I spent weeks looking for a solution so when I found one, I wanted to post it so people could have the same fun.

If you have a Dell notebook and you get it working then post back because my friend is still looking for a solution.
