Now that my games are working again I've decided to put together a little list of some games that run natively on Linux.

(If you are running Gentoo make SURE that you are in the games group before playing them!)

Armagetron - Tron style game
Bastet - tetris clone that uses an algorithm to choose the worst brick possible

Boson - Realtime military strategy game
BZFlag - 3D multiplayer tank battle
Cannon Smash - 3D Table Tennis
Chickens for Linux - Silly game where you blow the crap out of chickens with shotguns and rocket launchers

Chromium B. S. U. - Scrolling Space Shooter
Conquest-GL - Multi-player space warfare game
Enemy-Territory - Commercial-but-free, fun online FPS
FlightGear - popular flight simulator

XRacer - Wipeout clone
XWellTris - another tetris-like game

Commercial

The Doom Series - The famous FPS series by ID games
NeverWinter Nights - RPG by BioWare
The Quake Series - The other famous FPS series by ID games
Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Yet another FPS by ID games
Unreal Tournament - And yet another FPS, this one based around online gameplay

Just post any additions you would like, and I guess I could add games that work through Cedega or something if you guys really want me to. These are just the games that I have currently installed or have played before.

Thanks to su root, Gnufsh, zoobler, PirateXP, tspier2, and Titeuf for pointing out a few games I forgot about.

Most (All?) ID Software games will run natively on Linux, which includes the above quoted Quake and Doom series, as well as Return to Wolfenstien.

Unreal Tournament series has the Linux install right on the DVD/CDs.

I've also found that most games run faster natively under linux.

Not to mention that if your games aren't natively supported, there are emulators, I use Cedega, which runs the remaining few games that I play.

Sad that there isn't more but Linux isn't for kids, it's for hackers, crackers, coders, hippies (according to Bill and Steve) geeks etc.....

I personally love SuperTux, TuxRacer, and Battle for Wesnoth. I like Battle for Wesnoth the most, because I talk to a few of the translators/coders in German on IRC. ;)

What about Barbie Linux?

Linux isn't for kids just as much as Lego isn't for adults. I know a few young kids that use Linux. The young ones love Tuxracer. They don't know anything about programming, but they can use it just as functionally as any other OS (if not more)

http://sillysoft.net/lux/ <= You should add Lux. It is a game like Risk, but you can play in different time periods, and more. The only downside is...it has a game tries time-limit. It is Open-Source though. (Maybe create another category?)

Here, I found all but one of the links that su root didn't post. For all future references, please post the links to the games, because it really does no good when you have twenty games and no links. The links help adding games to the original list easier, faster, and more efficient. (P.S. STICKY!) (I couldn't find homepages to some of the games, so I linked to the Debian Repository, which still works...it just isn't as *professional*.)
