TIS

First off, to get it out of the way, I wanna thank ya for letting me interview you.

No problem - this is kinda neat, ive never been interviewed online like this before.

Do ya know about when you joined the Team?

I joined in November of last year, maybe it was October - so i think ive been folding for a little over a year now.

If there was something recent in your life that you wanted your fellow teammembers to know about, what would it be?

Hmmm. Well, TIS stands for Trinity Insurance Services. I am the IT Manager for Trinity. And since we were hit by Katrina pretty hard being in Mandeville LA (about 30 miles directly north of New Orleans) my production suffered for a bit. But now that we hired a number of temporary staff and additional insurance adjusters to deal with the extra claims, I have easily made up for the time I wasnt folding.

What is your EOC (extremeoverclockers) stats link?

EOC Stats

Ok... now for Where in The World is Carmen Sandiego... Whereabouts ya live at?

Mandeville, LA - about 30 miles North of New Orleans. Just across lake Ponchartrain.

How did you initially hear about F@H?

From the main page - you guys put a call for folders out at the time and it looked intresting - besides, I knew I could climb the ranks quickly with the computers that I maintain.

After starting, why do you continue to Fold?

Well, I had both grandparents on my dad's side taken by cancer. Seemed like the right thing to do.

What do you do for a living?

I own a computer repair shop and have just hired my first part time employee to help me with the overflow. So things are picking up business wise. Trinity is just my biggest client. I have a degree from LSU in psychology, but obvously don't use it for anything.

What do you do for fun?

Well mosty gaming - I have a sweet rig at the house (Athlon X2 4800+, 2GB, Radeon 1800 XL) Right now im working on Serious Sam 2, but I just finished Quake 4. I also like to target practice with handguns. I used to be a firearms instructor before I got into computers.

Is there anything special you do in your spare time that you really enjoy?

Spending time with my wife and kids - (4 boys and a girl) they keep me pretty busy. Fortunately, I really, really, enjoy working on computers. Ive had other jobs that were tedious and I hated them. Even though I dont make as much money in computers as I did before, the job satisfaction is way more important. So even in my spare time im always fixing up computers at my house or my relatives houses.

Time to spill your guts. What are the stats of your main folding rig? Why is it your fave? What all do you use the rig for?

Well my main folding rig is probably mine at the office, I dont fold at home cause the home computers arent on long enough per day to make much of a difference. But my main folding rig is an Athlon X2 4400+ with 1 GB of DDR 400. I have replaced almost all of the machines in the office with Athlon XP's mosty, but lately I have been getting Athlon 64's. Before I came along at Trinity, the fastest machines they had were celeron 1100 MHz socket 370's. I think maybe we have 3 left (but of course they are still folding) My main rig at home is my favorite - the stats are Athlon X2 4800+, 2 GB, Radeon 1800XL. At the house I game, email/surf, and video encode (my home rig eats video encoding for breakfast) - at work my rig is used mosty to fix other computers, surf, and burn disks mostly (and of course to fold...)

Do you have a Borg-Farm? If so, how many computers, and what are they? (CPU, RAM)

Its nor realy a farm, and im not actually having to convence anyone to let me fold on them since I control them. Most of the newer ones have 512 meg, the old cellys only have 128mb, there are a few with 1gb, Like I said - Im AMD all the way. Not that I wont work on an Intel, I see them all the time. I just dont think they are of the same calibur as a fast Athlon 64. Call me a fanboy or whatever but ill match my 4800 against a P4 anyday and wipe the floor with it.

What are your future goals? What do you most want to accomplish with your life?

Well, seeing my business continue to grow is always a good goal. I would like to help as many people to learn about Christ as possible while im here. Also I would like to raise my children to become productive and well adjusted members of society. I dunno, i guess i havent thought about that as much as i should.

If there is something you want to tell the team, then spill your guts! What have I missed in my questions that could help the team learn more about you and who you are?

All I can say is keep folding - its not like your computer was going to do anything with those spare cycles anyway. Might as well fold.

Oh yeah, for something uber-special this time, we have something new! Pictures of the member and rig!

TIS, if you wanna add more, youa re more than welcome. I edited your pics for file size a bit (from 2mbs each down to about 600K each).... they look a little grainier than the ones you sent me, but still convey the message... you have one awesome setup.

Nice case TIS

The only problem with windowed and acrylic cases is that the wire management has to be more rigorus. Also it seems that when you finally get around to tidying up your wires, you end up ripping it all out the next week because of an upgrading cycle

Hopefully your city had the good foresight to build above sea level

BTW what ACER LCD monitor model is that?

yeah the case is a pain in the butt to change parts out in - so i figured get the best then you wont have to change them out - when this gets outdated im selling the whole thing as is and starting over... the acer monitor is a 19 inch model AL1914 with a 12 ms response time - no ghosting. Ive bought about 20 or so for various customers and 2 for my shop one for my son's rig all from Acer - 1 dead pixel out of all of them.

btw - mandeville is about 15 feet above sea level or at least thats what im told. we had no flooding except along the lake front.
