NOTE: I had surgery come up just after starting this project, so things have been slow. I had to resort to a "Box" configuration instead of something more exotic.

Other ideas have come to me from all your inputs to a prior post I made in here.

Thanx.

I can't take it any longer !!!

Every case I've ever own3d is too small for my likings & the price is always
too much for something better / bigger. :bang head

Time I took matters into my own hands !

20+ years of experience working with my hands, dang it I know I can do this !

What do I need? well... a bigger case, period.

At 1st a few years ago, I thought I had found it, an old Gateway 2000
full tower steel case. What a TANK ! Heavy Metal at its best.

I need an Aluminum Rig! light weight, easy to move when needed.

Idea in motion.

What size? well, that took me 2 months to decide on.

21"H x 20"L x 10"W

Parts:

Aluminum..... uh, more decisions....
3/4" 1/8" thick angle, 3 pieces, 96" long (8 feet)

EDIT: that is 3, 8 foot long pieces.

Frame time, :D

So I cut up some Alu & welded it together, as neat as possible.

Each day, I just had to do something on this.

It's my Obsession.

Now what?

um..... I had to figure out what I wanted in this thing.

DFI Ultra-D
A64 Winnie
H2O - a must
my 6X6 1987 Chevy Chevette HC
Water pump
A res? -still in progress.

ok.... so I tried to figure the "best way" I could fit it all in, neatly.

!@#$%^&*&^$@#@&*)*&%$#@.

ok, so after about 10 days of contiplating which end was going to be "UP".
I turned it what would normally upside down.

Mobo tray installed, what next?

Drive bays. :bang head

To make it easier on me, I used the old ones out of the old case.
(my 1st pc build)

but they would not quite fit just right, so I used 1/2" steel tube stock.
cut to fit.

A side shot of drive bays installed, with a "broken" CD drive for sizing & spacing.

(very helpful)

Not too shabby, if I say so myself. :p

Face plate time..... :bang head

um....Oh ship ! :D

hmm....

ok, I want a CD drive in the top, what else?

Oh yeah! USB ports (top front a must !)

I mounted the face plate & installed the CD drive backwards.
Then used a "Sharpie" to mark the face plate on where to cut.

Some pics.....

Have to start somewhere, drill a big enuff hole for your jigsaw to get into & go from there.

If you are careful, (very) you can get really close to "finish" if you go slow.

USB access port X2 ! in progress.

I taped the 2 add on ports together to make the template.

It seemed like it took forever, but it's best to do it right the 1st time.

:)

After all was "just right" I cleaned it up using the 3m type wheel pads on my drill.

I would have to say, between the drive cage/ front panel & USB port & CD opening...

it took about a good 6 hours.
(remember, I just had surgery)

Top CD drive in, NOT touching the top cross bar for the case.

2nd drive gets started tomorrow. Along with the "A" drive.
