Battlefield 2: Ultra-high sound quality with an Audigy

Short but sweet:

I have an Audigy1 softmodded to an Audigy4, and was having sound problems. I reinstalled my drivers, and it cleared up, but before I did that I was looking at the battlefield 2 config files to see if it was a BF2 issue.

C:\Documents and Settings\Athlon64\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

There you will see Audio.con, open it up with notepad and change [AudioSettings.setSoundQuality "High"] to [AudioSettings.setSoundQuality "ultraHigh"]. I have had no problems with it so far, and it sounds great. It appears you don't need an X-Fi to use it.

Ohh btw, I only just today realized the huge difference between the software and hardware audio settings in BF2.

Audigy1 to Audigy4 nice . I'm guessing then Audigy2 to Audigy4 is also possable? If so do you have a link to a guide? thanks.

Also editing the file is a great find, i wonderd why i couldn't use ultra high, just thought it was because my card was old.

To sum it up real quick, install the YouPax drivers, then restart. Then, extract the Audigy4 cd and go to Audio/setup and open setup.exe. You should now have sound. Then download A_4Patch and replace spkset.exe and surmixer.exe, which are located somewhere in Program Files/Creative. Then restart. You now have a fully functional, minus the plugs, Audigy4. Sound is the same.

I think it would probably work on nearly any sound card, can others test this? Btw if you are running Software audio... you are definantly missing out on a lot. I guess I could call the sound "pixelated" or "grainy" in software mode.

Hmm, it seems I am missing a few helicopter sounds, but it would be interesting to see if it works ok for everyone else. It happens when a chopper is first taking off, so I think I can deal with it.

I did the mod and put that patch on, but my BF2 still has the Ultra High in red. How do i get it to work? I did everything right I think.
