Well, this morning i went to the pc store to pickup some parts that i ordered for my dad, including a 2.8C. SL6WT, 30 caps, packdate 27/04/2004.

Just wanted to see what it could do, so i put it in my main rig (see profile).

I am now running prime already half an hour stabile, 3.5Ghz, 250FSB 1.55v

Temp is bout 50, but its warm here, and the cooling hast yet been mounted completely (to save AS5 in the testing, i used some silicone crap). Somehow i get the idea that this baby is capable of much, much more :D

After about 50 mins, of prime (stabile), i ran Superpi: 39 sec! as fast as my 3.0C @ 3.75

going for a reboot and more Mhz :D

[BREAK]

Seems i was a bit too enthousiastic. 260FSB, 3.640Ghz, 1.6vcore took a BSOD after 3 mins of prime: IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Upped the vram, vcore and vagp a bit, but still happened. I think my ram i crapping out, will test it later on 5:4. First i will install my new videocard :D

Okay, the new VGA (9800pro) is in, and modded to XT already :)

RAM now running 5:4 on 265FSB, 3.72 Ghz and 212Mhz ram speed (2-2-2-5)

I think im going to give the 3.0C to my dad and keep the 2.8, it benches much faster (due to higher FSB).

Ram wasnt stabile either on 2-2-2-5, now on 2.5-3-3-5 Gave me 200mb/s extra in sandra.

Current score (265 fsb, ram 5:4, (212Mhz), 3.710Ghz):

Sandra Arythmetic: 11429 Dhrystone / 7132 Whetstone
Sandra MultiMedia: 17102 Integer / 26097 Float
Ram Bandwidth: 5680 Integer / 5692 Float

Arythmetic and Multi-media are 8% higher then my 3.0C @ 3.75, memory bandwidth is 9% lower.

Current 3dmark (with 9800pro @ XT speeds): 6107

I will tweak the system more in the next days.

That was with the old catalyst though, i updated from 3.9 -> 4.6 and got 6330. Couldnt submit it (old 3dmark), but i downloaded the patch and will run it again in a couple o' minutes

I purchased a PowerColor 9800pro, and flashed it using a 9800XT BIOS. Therefor, it runs much faster, and gives higher scores.

At 265 FSB, my ram cant take that 1:1 (running the same speed). therefor i have to slow it down, and i do that with a ratio of 5:4, for every 5 Hz the FSB does, the ram does 4. 265/5 * 4 = 212Mhz.

The multiplier of a 2.8Ghz P4 is 14 (14*200=2800), so 265*14 = 3710Mhz

the 2-2-2-5 are the RAM timings. i am not known with those. All i know is that they tell the Northbridge how many cycles to wait with certain memory operations. The 2225 was too tight, not stabile, so i loosened them to 2.5-3-3-5.

I purchased the 2.8 for my dad originally, but since it performs better then my 3.0, i will give that one to him and keep the 2.8 myself. The 2.8 runs on a lower clockspeed then the 3.0 (3710 vs. 3750 overclocked), but the 2.8 has a greater FSB (265 vs. 250) and that makes more of a difference here, so that the 2.8 faster is.

do you use the normal heatsink that comes with your cpus?

No. The stock intel heatsinks are not fitted for overclocking. I use the zalman copper flowerbed (6500B Cu), with two fans on it. Alot of people like the thermaltake SP9x for overclocking, but i dont.

What do you want to say with that ;)

the 2.8 hits a big wall at 268 FSB, so thats really the top with tight memory timings. The VGA however, has lots of room for overclock, but i need to get a better cooler on it. Currently on 9800XT stock speeds (412 / 360)

To be continued :attn:

Nothing just posting some scores .I was thinking that a 9800 xt should whip my fx5900 Flashed to 5950 spec's.And man thats a nice clock out of that 2.8 .Dam i want a decent chip i hate piece f junk i got now.that 6903 score was with my 2.6 OCed to 3.3 i believe. That extra fsb really does help. How much was that 2.8 and were did you get it i didnt know that they had a 30 cap version of the 2.8.

Neither did i, untill i opened the package this morning.

Running 3.71Ghz now (265 fsb, rock solid). vcore is only 1.58. stepping is SL6WT, but could it be its some sort of M0?

The chip costed 186 Euro, www.gistron.com

Hmm whats 186 Euro in USD do you know? But any way its a bad time as i just got laid off from work .But ill find a 30 cap 2.8 or 3.0 sooner or later i was thinking about rmaing my 3.0 to intel. And hoping they send me a 30cap 3.0.But any way i bet your were surprized when you opened the box and saw 30 caps looking up at you.i know i would of been happy as hell....lol

I had a 30 cap 3.0 that crapped out at 250 fsb, this 2.8 is much better.

I was really amazed, yes. as far as i knew only 3.0+ (sometimes) had 30 caps

186 euro will be about 190 / 195 dollars depending on the market.

I will apply AS5 on the CPU tomorrow, as well as improve the cooling (new fans). Then i can up the vcore to 1.65 ~ 1.7 and head for 4 Ghz :D

Hey Sjaak, when you run 3dmark, do you go into your ATI control panel (display settings) and turn the slider all the way to performance before benching? Doing that will give you better results. I got 6945 in 03 with a 2.4 @ 3.24ghz, 1gb mushkin level II 2-2-2-5, 9800 pro (not flashed to XT) at 442/740. I get a score around mid-7000 with 3.6ghz

If you need good cooling for your vid card, get a VGA Silencer.

I was actually looking for some cheapass 80$ Q-tek watercooling (fits one 5.25 bay) to put on the card.

Sure, if i break any world records, i will let you guys know about it ;)
