I second the DELL advice. They have the 18 or 18.1 inchers down to about 550 depending on wether you can get a deal. Most of the time its free shipping too. I bought a ViewSonic 15in LCD through DELL's online store and haven't had any problems.

i have the dell 1800FP 18.1in LCD and have to say its super clear and crispy with absolutely no ghosting at all. Looks just as good if not better than my old CRT monitor, expect its saves much more room and much seXxier.

Checkout the review and some pics here

if you want a 17" monitor you should look into the Hitaichi panels with 16ms response time. they are the best LCDs for displaying video and playing games.

Personally I have a 17" samsung with a 25ms panel and would not hesitate to recomend it to anyone. So look for a monitor with the hitachi panel or a samsung one.

also, look at half.com, they often have very good deals on LCDs, right now there are some good deals on those Dell LCDs everyone seems to like.
