LCD or CRT?
Just taking a break from the war... Do you like LCD's or CRT's? I tend to like the CRT's a little more, I haven't seen an LCD that can match my 19inch CRT yet. What's your fav? |

For the price, a large crt is the way to go. I recently procured a gem of a 21" AG CRT monitor for a whole $112 off ebay. Refurbs are around $250 - $300. LCD's are a lot more expensive. The only thing I would like about them is the small footprint but it would probably get broken easier too.

I agree g_f. I got a 21" Trinitron IBM display off ebay for $240 shipped (in-state). It's about a $750 monitor, IIRC. LCDs are very tempting but the main reason I'm CRT is because I play a lot of shooters. I need high refresh rates at high resolutions since I normally play 1280x1024 @ 80+ Hz refresh rate. That and the color contrast of CRT monitors is so much sharper. For a desk job I would be all LCD. Incidentally here's a picture of my main computer desk. Notice the 10" LCD TV on the corner. This way I can watch the news while I use my PC! ![]()

CRT all the way. i will admit that lcd can be easier on the eyes, especially for typing, but crt is more cost effective. for the price of a good 19inch lcd i could get a great 22+ inch crt. unless space is a concern i will always go for crt, at least for the forseeable future.

I just got rid of my CRT in favor of an LCD. It's great, especially since I figured everything out on it. *lol*. With my old 17" CRT I would have really itchy eyes, always squinting my eyes, red face after being on a while, etc... I can't believe how much physically better it feels looking at an LCD. I know, it sounds funny, but it's really true. I also like that LCDs are way lighter than CRTs, and much easier to move around. I can move it when two of us need to see the screen and then move it back. The screen moves much easier than my old CRT. I can adjust the screen up and down or side to side easy as can be. The only draw back I have about LCD's is the price. You pay much more than the same size CRT. For me, it was worth it. |

Power usage, size, heat, portability. Those are all good reasons to get a LCD monitor. Price, however, as well as lack of response time (refresh rate to CRT) make LCDs not a viable option for gamers and 'normal' people alike. I spent all my money on a LCD when they first dropped in price ($450 for a 15") so I still have the problem of multiple computers and 1 monitor :P.
