Windows 7 locking up :(

Some reason the Retail install is locking up on me now

its a fresh install, (installed it a few hours ago as a matter of fact), its not connected to the internet yet so I know for a fact it can't be a virus, I checked I'm out of ideas, I've been all over google looking for solutions but everything I try doesn't seem to work

Its Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

what the 'lock up' is, is I'll be doing something, anything, and it will just 'lock up' the LCD screens on my G19 and G13 both go black, I can still move the mouse, ALT+CTRL+DEL don't work, I tried unplugging and re-plugging in the keyboard, no luck, its rather frustrating since its such a 'fresh' install to >__<

someone else mentioned problems earlier with the 64 bit version.

If you are using the autohide feature of the taskbar try turning it off.
There seems to be a bug with the autohide function (64 bit only)

Nothing installed yet, applications or games?

Have you ran updates from cd/dvd's for hardware drivers?

Or you can't get that far?

And are you overclocking it at this time?

These are two things I have withe the rig in my sig, the 64 bit RC would didn't like the NVidia drivers that came with the card, had to go down load some newer Vista drivers to get them to install and not cause it to reboot.

It didn't like the 3.05 GHz the processor was running at either.

My $0.000002

You switched from 32bit to 64bit (judging by your sig.)

Try setting your system to stock for a bit, overclocks are a *little* harder to get stable in a 64bit OS than a 32bit OS, can usually squeeze a few more Mhz in a 32bit OS with the same voltages.

Auto hide is OFF
Updates and drivers where done via USB stick with my laptop (I don't like connecting a computer to the net till I have decent anti-virus software installed ;P, plus I had to pickup some Cat5e so I can run a length to my comp hahaha)
and all my drivers are the 'windows 7' ones, aside from the GPU's (I had to do with the AMD drivers as some reason Asus's drivers would cause a BSoD when playing games
As for overclock, didnt know that, will try that, but does it matter that this rig has passed a 12 hour Orthos with the 64 bit retail (the os thats installed now)

12 hour Orthos within a 64 Bit install would suggest stability. Not sure what else it could be, since it is so fresh, I'd just reinstall.

If you go the reinstall route to be on the safe side don't have your computer overclocked while you are installing.

I just gave the proc and memory some more power as thats one suggestion i found on the net so im stresing in orthos again this time for only a hour though. Lets pray this works >____<

nope, no luck

on stock clocks now, lets pray that, that works, if not guess I'll have to re-install again, ugh

I think I figured out the issue, it might be the harddrive, the HD its on, I noticed a few minutes ago when it locked up again, that once it did lock up a slight 'hiss' was coming from the harddrive, I think I'll go and pickup a 64gb (that should be big enough for windows and my games right?) SSD or a WD Black Caviar.....

Sounds like I'm having a similar problem.

Even on stock speeds the computer will reset. I'm also on a retail version of Win 7 64bit. I've had about 20 resets so far.

Please keep this post updated, I'd like to know if your re install works; I think I'm heading down that path. I'm thinking its a driver problem but I'm not sure. Win Explorer freezes, I can get freezes when I use my scanner/printer...

It appears as though it has something to do with my Logitech G19 (or G13's) apps, I re-formated once, installed everything, and it was still locking up, then I decided to do a little test, re-format AGAIN, and install each program / driver and give it about 1 hour of 'idle' time, it was fine until I installed the Game Panel software, so after a re-boot I just removed everything from the 'apps' folder and voila, no lockups yet!

Was reading another thread that someone else is having trouble with their G15 Keyboard... Maybe its the keyboard. Have a regular one?

Set the executable to run as administrator, maybe that will fix your problem..

I think this is it too. My problems really started when, my wife stuck a USB reader into the keyboards USB slot; Win 7 auto down loaded a driver and since then its FUBAR

To clarify, I actually have the Logitech G15

damn!!!, just locked up again :@, I did have my G13 plugged into it though... hmmm lets unplug it and see if it does it again.... don't know what triggered it this time O_o

and to run as admin, right click any icon > properties > compatibility > run as admin OR rightclick icon > run as admin (doing it this way is a 'one time only' thing... so I recommend doing it the other way...)

going to leave my Ipod un-plugged see if that works -_-

These are the errors I get once Win7 loads after a BSOD. Are you getting the same error?

I can't recall the EXACT error, but it has to do with TF2, not windows 7 itself locking up.... lol, when I decided I want another BSoD I'll copy and paste it into here XD hahahaha

I think I have found another thing that causes it to 'lock up', Itunes, I went out for a walk, came back, set my Ipod up to sync, got an error message, and the mouse wouldnt move!, nothing was on the LCD screen either >___< so Itunes might be the culprit as well....

heh, already tried that XD

I think I have narrowed it down to a few things... Itunes, G19 or G13 screen apps

some reason it locks up when running some G19 (or G13) apps, and it locks up when ITunes errors out... (don't ask me exactly what error it said, lol, I forget XD)

heh, already tried that XD

I think I have narrowed it down to a few things... Itunes, G19 or G13 screen apps

some reason it locks up when running some G19 (or G13) apps, and it locks up when ITunes errors out... (don't ask me exactly what error it said, lol, I forget XD)
For what its worth Itunes would lock up on me in XP. I really hate my ipod, I don't think it likes me either.

I think I solved my problem by booting from the Win7 OS disc and using the repair function. No more errors so far.

Alright, still having this lock up issue here, I installed all VISTA drivers this time (fresh install ONCE AGAIN) and its all fine aside from my webcam driver -_-, its still causing it to 'lock up'

another thing I noticed is when I move fairly large files it will lock up -_- so I'm wondering now if its a memory issue >___<
