I do just fine with 75-100ish ping. Get off your high horse before your hurt yourself.

Sorry to say it, but theres quite a difference between "fine" and competition-level ping. When you're used to a 20-60 ping going to 100 is a lagfest.

Sure is. Especially in Left 4 Dead. A game with zero room for errors, miscalculation or delays caused by lag. Noticeable difference playing in 40-60, 100ish and 150ish.

From a TomsHardware article.

Quote:

PC gamer rage isn't worrying Activision too much.

Zoom

With the news that the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would lack dedicated servers, console commands, lean, and among many other features that were available in the first Modern Warfare, many PC gamers are unhappy with the 'dumbing down' of the sequel.

In fact, many of you have commented that you have cancelled your preorders in response to the design decisions made by Infinity Ward. But Activision, publisher of what will be one of the largest titles of the year, doesn't seem all that worried about the backlash from PC gamers.

"We're, of course, watching this very carefully and paying attention to it," Activision president Mike Griffith said in response to a financial analyst, as noted by Kotaku. "But we're not overly concerned about it."

"One of the problems with our PC SKUs in the past is that it has not been as friendly a consumer experience in terms of matchmaking and online play as the consoles have allowed it to be," he added. "Our solution here improves that consumer experience overall by a significant margin. And so we think that the benefits we will see are going to far outweigh any negatives that seem to be surfacing."

Since when did we want online matchmaking, another dopey gaming service to sign up for, a smaller player cap and a game dependent upon a single player hosting it? Matchmaking hasn't been proven an essential/flawless feature in any other PC game.

i wonder if we tried to badmouth Cod6 (well actually, it's more like telling the truth) to every single forum on the internet, how many copies of COD6 will be withdrawn, or how many will simply not buy it afterwards.
i'm anticipating half of PC gamers who don't knowo this yet, will buy the game, load it up...finish the career and the moment they load up the multiplayer, :

this is just discrimination...
Quote:
PC gamers
already had enough to be mad about with Modern Warfare 2 and the lack of dedicated servers, but it appears to be worse. An online chat with Infinity Ward representatives revealed that gamers may have more to gripe about. The maximum number of players per game will be set at 18, and the ability to lean has also been removed. Both of these were done to prevent game balance from being ruined. Also removed from this game is the ability to use console commands to modify game settings, or even record your gameplay
. In the new matchmaking system, users also won't be able to kick problem users or those that are hacking. In addition, there is a five second delay any time the host needs to change. The most interesting aspect in my opinion is that Infinity Ward admitted that it is basically a direct port from the console. The lone exception is that “PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.” Its not all bad PC gamers, at least you can still use a mouse.
yeap, same old multiplayer flaws everybody has pointed out, but it also says you can't even pick the team you want to be on?!

this is almost a joke..i'm actually going to start laughing i think.

My point was him getting all uppity about someone finding a higher ping 'acceptable'. It is. Is it ideal? Not really, and definitely far from the best. I *used* to have good pings but a certain ISP is made of flying donkey dung. Now I have really dont have much choice.

Looks like I'll keep playing CoDWaW until BFBC2 is released in March. This also delays my system upgrades until then. Sorry IW.

well if i read correctly, that is what went through my mind as well.
i can imagine 10 year olds spamming txts in the chat box, or swearing over the headsets...or maybe when/if game hacks are made (friend had some hack that let him see through walls) they'll just use them and ruin the whole gaming experience.

BIG BIG sigh.

I have been looking forward to this game for months... I paid to have my own internet here at school so that I could play it online (more reasons for that as well), basically this is the game I was looking forward to the most this year... Not anymore. I wont even be buying this for the campaign mode, I realize IW is basing they're sales on the stupid consoles, but I feel they have turned they're backs on the computer gamers. Shame, it had so much potential.

Looks like its L4D2 and DiRT 2 for me to look forward to.

There is no admin now. And giving the host the ability to ban people would not really help either as the host is just a random person and not everyone is a good admin.

theres really no point trying having a cry over not being able to kick someone. Heck if someones annoying you from typing, just hide wat ever they wrote like in CoD4 and if its a mic, just turn the sounds off, but i normally have music playing anyways!

And since CoD6 is gonna be matchmaking, just look for a new game! Not that hard!

Oh yeah, that's true. So I guess it's the choice between having no kicking or risk the guy waving the gun being trigger happy.

It won't help that the piracy numbers will be really high anyways from all the people who were going to buy it but then decided they did not want to due to IW decisions so they pirate it.

Wish more people understood the reality that a person that never chose to buy something is not a lost sale. Never figured why people stick to that absurd notion.

Well, with the people that were never going to buy it, along with those who are ****ed off at IW there will be a ton of pirated copies out there.

I read something somewhere just recently that some recent study showed that people who pirated music actually spent about 2-3 times as much money per year on music.

In this particular case, though...that argument is probably sound. I'm thinking there's going to be quite a few "lost sales" pirates on this one. Just a hunch.

it could be the same for PC gamers as well, piraters will hve to buy new hardware to keep playing all those fake games

and IW does realise you can pirate 360 games right?
the 360 copies just aren't as pirated as PC copies.

OMFG , I was talking to a friend who got PS3 copy of the game , early released from a Gamestop in Reading,PA. He said he beat the story campaign in just over 5 hours on hard difficulty.

There are 3 campaigns with 5 missions each, said the story was good but way too short. >.<

you'd think they would make up for the multiplayer with a longer campaign.
that hard earned $60 is going to be gone in 5 hours, $100 for me.

that's just sickening...the only time i'm going to buy this game now is when it drops price during a clearance sale (maybe like a few months down the track?)
