I finally got around to doing my 24hr. stability run! Keep in mind that this is what I have been running this chip at for a few weeks now, under water without any issues. My chip is definitaly not having any kind of issue with the voltage degrading my OC. This is at 1.45v and no vdroop under load, measurement was taken with a DMM.

I have gotten the new mobo up and running. A Gigabyte GA X38 DQ6. First thing I did was flash to F7 using the USB stick method. I must say this is a nice easy way to flash!

I am not crazy about the way they work the voltages in the BIOS. They use + this and - that...why not just let us choose a voltage like most other BIOSes?

Anyway, in basically the same conditions as an Abit IP35 Pro this mobo did a little bit better with slightly less voltages. I was able to run Orthos blend for more than an hour at 4.4ghx (489x9) using only 1.39vcore. Obviously that wasn't stable and I didn't want to go over 1.4vcore, so I lowered the clock.

4.3ghz (478x9) ran the blend for more than three hours on 1.38vcore. It took 1.4 to run the blend at 4.2 on the Abit board.

I finally settled on the below setting.

Ambient temps in my garage were a balmy 4C...open case w/ 120mm blowing on NB. Core

Temp reads 36C (core 1) 32C (core 0) idle...as always, this NEVER changes. Load was 36

(core 1) 43 (core 0). Everyst reads the CPU temp as 19C under load.

For some reason I cannot get 500mhz stable on this board OR the ABit IP35 Pro. I will spend the day trying to get stable at 500x8. Any ideas on how to do this wil be appreciated.

Wow, great clocks for that low voltage jimmsch!! So far its taking 1.375v for me to be stable @4GHZ. I haven't tried anything higher than 1.375v yet, I'm trying to figure out what all these new settings are from my latest Bios flash! :)

e8400

Trying 1.35v(bios) @4150. 1.2v fsb termination all other board volts stock. So far so good.

one of the most fun mobo chip combos ive ever worked with. wolfdale is a OC'ers dream, low volts low temps high freqz = one happy camper. Now that the DQ6 bios is a little more mature and stable this board rocks!

:)Every once in awhile something truely great comes along.:beer::cool:

how come no one seems to be using the 8.5x multi?

I've found the best OC for me to be at:
8.5 x 498 = 4233Mhz

Is there some reason why people aren't using this? Are half multi's bad for some reason?
My RAM is rated for 500Mhz, so maybe people can't get to this FSB with their RAM?

Intel has talked about the E8300 CPU being the 8.5 "Sweet Spot" CPU for enthusiasts. Intel, naturally, wants to get rid of the excess E6X50's before they introduce this latest 8.5 multi CPU. Not surprising your finding a sweet spot at 8.5 given Intel's roadmap.

Good question. Never tried it with a half multi one of these intel chips. Used to use a half multi on an fx chip i had a long time ago.

Additional Comment(s): Stable at 4.5, can bench at 4.63, but not prime stable, can suicide at 4.7, I think its more a problem of the northbridge geatting wonky at those clock, my NB waterblock will be in this week, then we'll go for another round of OC'ing

*Update*

I had to turn CPU FSB to 1.3v now hitting 4.218 at highest load temp of 65c cpu. So far 5 hours prime95 stable. Cpu is vcore is set to 1.45 droops to 1.424 at load. Will be setting a seperate link on photos and detailed information on my overclock this weekend.
