I am not sure I understand you about the Maze4/5
But here is
DD's website posting it. I wouldn't think he would do that if it wasn't getting full contact (if I understand you correctly).
The normal Maze4/5 have flat bases I believe and the WB base would land on the shim before the GPU die.
It is easy enough to make a shim clearance cut and DD may already have done that.
What that article was referring to was all the other place that need sinking when the the stock air cooler is
removed which is true. You have to take care of the memory chips, Vcore mosfets and the Vcore series
inductors when going to a fan less cooling solution.
What I do not like about full coverage blocks is they are always a compromise that give crap for GPU cooling
compared to a
good normal water black. The "All in Ones" are also expensive and have a
ZERO upgrade
path. Get a new model card and that expensive "All in One WB" becomes an instant expensive "All in One"
paper weight. You have to buy a new "All in One" for the new card instead of moving a standard WB and heat
sinks from the old card to the new card. Of course that is what most of the makers of "All in One" WB's like
about em lol. Rapid obsolescence means more sales dollars rolling in if they control their stock!!!
