I cant believe that there isnt a prime95 thread in there

( see sig for my team)

im sure there are

I have always wondered how "large" prime95 was compared to seti and foldign

not on the forums but in terms of actuall horse power

$50,000 if you find a 100,000 digit prime

2^(100,000)-1 prime number

Doesn't prime95 take like 45k of that money and let you keep 5k? I remember something like this because its "their program"

actually they take 50k of the 100k reward

25 goes to charity of the creaters wish
2k goes to a bunch of people that found primes up to that point
then the remainder of thier 50k goes back to prime95 to promot inovation

then 50k goes to you

if you found the 100,000 digit prime you all by your self you could get all 100k from the EFF

If Prime95 moved to BOINC, I'd totally create an account. Primes have always facinated me, and running Prim95 always seemed cool. Perhaps I should just try starting my own project -- Prime06 or something :D

there has been talk ( bonic is the stat tracker?) joining the stats tracker

the hold up is that there is no diffrence in the stats between teams and individuals in the curent prime95 server
this should be changeing some time soon (primenet v5 is coming out some time this year)

I think seventeen or bust has something to do with primes, and I think prime grid is boinc.

i misspoke

boinic seems like a common platform that allows users to pick what type of work they do

the reason that prime95 has not done this is becuase it was writen in assembly for better use of cpu times

its realy optomized for sse2 (p4s )

you can ( just have two diffrent .exe's in diffrent folders)

there is however no reall point as prime95 does not leave much unused idle cycles

so running two instances basicly 50% your output but 200% your production

However if you have a dual core or smp you can set the affinity if you have hyper threading treat it like a single cpu as it doesnt give prime any benifit to hyper thread
