-=The DRAM Stable Settings Thread=-

Folks,

We often see many of us new to a particular type of memory, spend loads of time getting them to run stable at optimal settings. Sucka and I have decided to put together a database, comprising solely of the results obtained by our members. While many such databases exist, more numbers are always welcome. Our database would offer the additional convenience of sorting results by manufacturers and the chips their modules are comprised of.

In a significant departure from other databases, we would like you to post ALL your stable timings, at reasonably overclocked frequencies. It is quite clear that one set of modules have various points of stability at a single frequency. This could result in compromising Bandwidth at the expense of stability etc. We would like to hear about your experience in such matters and hence, actively seek your comments. The rationale behind this is to offer people a variety of options. Quite often, copying somebody else's settings won't work. However, these is a greater probability of hitting the jackpot with many settings to choose from! I will post your best results in the database for compactness. The link will carry over to your log/settings thread.

Treat this like a personal testing logbook.

Comments:

  • - Surprisingly, These settings go against most of my observations with my other sets. The most important point was that I had to reset the CMOS before even switching back to 512 x 2 from 512 x4 ! With the same settings, I kept getting BSOD's. When I reset the CMOS, boom.. 32M stability!

    Please reset your CMOS if you change modules.


    - Note that my bandwidth is about 600 points lower than those who have 2.5-3-3-x settings. The tREF timings also contribute to a BW loss, with the 1.95 us settings > 3.9 us etc in terms of Bandwidth scores.

    -These scores are highly dependent on which stick goes in which slot. I have labelled the sticks A and B for this purpose. Switching places results in an instant BSOD. I have no concrete explanation for this other than the possibility that there is a weaker stick and that the DIMM Slots don't behave identically. There could be a DRAM Voltage difference in the slots.

Extra Notes and observations:

  • - If TWCL was set to 02 instead of 01, I had to reset the CMOS. TWCL always at 01
    - Dynamic counter is best left disabled, otherwise I got massive amounts of Test #5 errors (718 to be precise)!
    - Number of errors decreased when I tuned off the full screen logo and USB. I believe disabling extra unused perephiral devices aids in improving stability
    - Data Drive strength HAD TO be set to level 2. This is a very critical parameter.
    -If Twtr was set to 01/03 instead of 02, there was no BOOT.
    -Setting Tref= HTT x 7.8us, rounded off to the highest value gave me stability. Still testing this theory.

Nice one Thunda! That is very impressive with 512 x 4!.

This is the highest HTT i can obtain at the given voltage and maintain tight timings. Even one more HTT here will result in overall instability. I will test with higher voltage later and see if that does anything as far as overall speeds are concerned.

Dread, you can get some tighter timings with that memory i'm sure of it. Try the timings in my post and see what you come up with, i'll venture a guess you do better at the same clocks with the timings i have.

Also, can we get some 32m from you guys for "stable" testing. 1m tests really don't give us any hint of stability and that's what this thread is built around. I can post results/timings that aren't stable, but i don't want to give end users the wrong idea on a given set of memory. This threads purpose is to give members a place to go and compare memory results.

Where is the glue?!

We need Pi 32M as a minimum measure of DRAM stability :)

Its guys like you who actually make or break a thread. If everybody were as enthusiastic as you folks, took the time to write up some detailed information, newbies would have absolutely no teething problems. For example, I was testing my new OCZ PC4200 Plats before I logged on. Its not easy to hit DDR600 straight off the bat. If only detailed information were available, I'd be sitting pretty right now :)

ATM, I'm using Sucka's guide to attain my goal. Watch for some TCC5 action by the weekend :)
 
Sorry guys I will post some 32MB SuperPI soon as I can since I'm running at 261MHz on this RAM right now because at 3.2V (which is required if I want to do 290MHz) these sticks get burning hot even while being active cooled with by 2x80mm/80cmf's each.

You might want to ease up on that Voltage. If it gets hot with 2 x 80 mm fans, then you are pushing the envelope. Be careful. I'd like to encourage you to burn up the RAM and tell us about it, but I suppose that's not what you had in mind :D

I have burned in (around 100hours of Blend and lost count for memtest) and tweaked this RAM as far as it can go and it still wont take anything but 3.2V to do 290MHz. These are one of the strangest TCC5's that I have seen around.

Why couldn't Corsair put their TCCD/TCC5's on BrainPower PCB's like everyone else :bang head

Currently testing OCZ PC4200 Platinum (TCC5). Burning it in now. I cannot boot at 2.5-3-3-8-1T, 295MHz if VDRAM < 2.9V. I don't really care about the memtest errors now, as its still being burnt in.

It is cool to the touch with 2x 80mm fans blowing.

Try relaxing RAS to CAS from 3 to 4 cause TCC5's love that stuff at high freq and you just might be able to pull it off with 2.9V but I doubt it. These chips take 3V like nothing so don't be surprized if it requires more than that.

Also be sure to try Drive Strength at 8 cause I get better stable settings with that unlike with 7.
 
P.S. I will add more results to my RAM soon as my new PSU gets here since I sold my Modstream couple of days ago and now I'm using a crappy Orion 430W with only 16A on a 12V Rail so I was forced to take out some of my 12V fans in order to keep the rail stable and among them were my dual 80mm that cooled the RAM.
 
Hey just to let you know guys I made a DFI NF4 BIOS Vault since most of you are using DFI NF4 boards. So you can get the latest BIOS or some of the others as well righ here!

Do not try and boot with 2-2-2-5 timings unless u have the DDR voltage set at 2.8v.

Stable at 2 2 2 5 timeings @3.0Ghz , Its stable up too 3.2 just not in 3D Inviroment (Games) Ram needs more juice.
