ok so I have had several different video cards, processors, and different amounts and types of ram, and several different monitors, but one problem remains consistant. Every time I watch high quality video in full screenevery now and then a wavy line moves vertically across the screen every now and then. its just one line and only moves a partial way across the screen. im guessing there is some setting somewhere that im not doing right. this also happens in game videos and every once in a while when moving in large landscapes in games. anyone have any idea what is the problem? thanks in advance.

Probably a lame suggestion, but have you been using the same cable or cable combination? I had a hum bar and the whole time it was because of a bad cable i wasn't even using in my second port...

nope the only thing that has stayed consistent is the damn line all the componets surrounding the situation have been changed several times.
It's tough to guess from your description but I have a 19" monitor and a 32" TV and when I play video on the monitor I can see a vertical/horizontal chop sometimes. My guess is the response time just isn't good enough on the 19". Maybe you have a similar issue?

If it moves from top to bottom or vice versa, enable V-sync? You haven't said what you tried, hard to make suggestions.

yeah i was going to say v-sync....i think it makes it so frames appear all at the same time....and not half a frame...then the other half
when i had the issue it was my dvi cable..

im sorry i have played with a ton of settings. but its hard to say as i seem to do something different on each build. i will try turning on vsync though i think i have tried this to no avail. i know it doesnt make a difference if i iturn it on or off in a game but ill try the nividia control panel. and im guessing response time is not the problem on my new monitor as its only 3ms. but i could be wrong.

could it be software related? maybe video codecs? I'm just trying to think of what has remained the same the whole time(other than the problem) , and if none of the parts have that only leaves the software

I wasn't aware V-sync affected video playback. I thought it only affected 3D-apps??

You say everything stayed the same except the cable? change the cable and see if that is the prob.
Do you have the IO sheild installed? Could be transient volts floating around
