A little off topic but I see a lot of TV's rated at 720p that claims to have 1366x768. Shouldn't 720p be 1280x720? For computer monitors this would be no problem as 1366x768 is an available resolution but as a TV, most HD devices only output either 1080p (1920x1080) or 720p (1280x720) so wouldn't making the screen 1366x768 be wasteful? Not only are they wasting the fabrication of the extra pixels, they are also make a 1280x720 standard image not fill the whole screen properly (like displaying not native resolution on your LCD). Why do they do this?

There is nothing more horrible than a 1366x768 TV. For the life of me I really can't understand WTH were (are?) they thinking. Less and less so since the advent of 1080p monitors but still. I guess what they were shooting for was a 16:9 ratio off 1024x768 computer monitor resolution. Maybe it had something to do with existing mfg process. You are right though, it is wasteful, I'd rather have a 1280x720 monitor which of course is not an option. In most cases what you end up with is a thick ugly black frame around an HD picture. That stupid res is the sole reason I have not gotten an LCD TV long time ago - no need for a 1080p just yet either.

I dont get a thick ugly black frame around my 720p screen.... if i hook up my laptop or pc to the tv it takes up the whole screen... no black borders...

What is the PC/laptop res set to 720 or 768? And irrespective of that a 720p video will be zoomed, upscaled whatever you wanna call, it if displayed F/S on 768 matrix. And the results of that may vary (between bad and horrible what what I have seen on LCD panels).

ya, I don't understand selling that resolution as 720 tv's either. It bothered me so much I said a prayer for anyone who buys one and the proceeded to pretend it didn't exist until this thread brought up those evil evil memories.
