I'm thinking of buying this monitor:

However, this presents an issue. I use a VGA adapter for my Xbox 360 and DVI for my PC. This presents no problem now because I can use the VGA on the monitor and use the included HDMI->DVI-D for my PC. This WILL present a problem when I get a PS3, though. I will be limited to using VGA for my PC and HDMI for my PS3 if I ever want to have them both one source-switch away.

What I don't understand is how to direct the sound to my speakers, not the monitor's if I use HDMI.

This monitor has such an inconvenient port setup, but the real estate is crazy for the price...le sigh.

find an optical to aux cable for your line in port
edit: it think this is what you need

I have that monitor and you will be pleased with it for sure. Look into getting an HDMI splitter, they usually sell next to the PS3s at BestBuy.

i can fix this!

ok, well. are your trying to get the sound from your 360 to you speakers?

or are you trying to get your audio from your computer to your speakers?

i would suggest getting a switch for the hdmi, or a tv with more ports maybe?
mine has 4 hdmi's and like 3 a/v things and 1 component.

let me know what your trying to do, i dont understand.

trust me. ive done this.

ok. first i would suggest getting this, so that you can use 4 hdmi devices. (im doing it, and it looks great)

and this to plug in the switch to the monitor

do your speakers have a left and right audio hook-up (red and white)?

if so, i would suggest this for your xbox. you plug in the hdmi to the converter, and then get a left and right audio cable thats however long you need it to plug into your speakers.

third, i would suggest using a dvi to hdmi for your computer. i did it, and it looks great. then you can just leave your speaker cables the way they are since dvi doesnt do audio

So if I understand correctly. I'd be plugging in both my monitor (via a DVI->HDMI converter) and my PS3 into the 4 way HDMI switch, keeping my audio connections as they are, and plug the Xbox into the VGA as I have it now?

The switch/splitter idea solves the many device-not many inputs (Thanks!), however...

I don't know how that would solve my audio problem. I need to know if I'll have a problem running my PS3's audio through my normal speakers (Logitech 5.1, sort of old) if I use HDMI? Will I need additional setup?

i have no idea with a ps3....
maybe you can use the optical audio port if your speakers have the port...
then just turn the volume down on the monitor.(you will have to do this on the xbox. (with my tv, there is a delay inbetween the tv speakers and the room speakers when i play my xbox, so i just turn down the volume, and vwola! problem solved!))
