its looking like it is .... canada's dell site has it up for 369.99 CAD which translates to 305 USD... and the Australian site lists for 459.99 AUD which translates also to 305 usd

and whats looking EVEN BETTER is the fact that it will do its native rez 1680x1050 at 75hz!!! not the standard 60hz!

Performance
The 2209WA ate DisplayMate for breakfast, then flew in more DisplayMate to have for lunch, showing smooth gradients and displaying all 255 monochrome shades. Movie watching was a joy, as was our Half-Life 2: Episode 2 gaming session, with no noticeable detractions.
The 2209WA is a monitor with very few flaws. While we'd love to see 1:1 scaling, and the inset screen may cause some users grief, we wouldn't mind two of these sitting on our desk. This is the best 22-inch monitor we've seen.

Its the industry standard. It would be really nice if they have stores still, and I find it hard to believe they failed. They were closed just last year.

Im really hesitant of pulling the trigger now. At least with my HP, which is a TN panel, I have the ability to return it to the tiger direct store, no questions asked, as many times as I want, for 2 weeks.

Buying LCD tech online makes me nervous...

With the 2209WA having an IPS panel, and having a Dell 2007 1600 x 1200 20" PVA panel sitting right alongside of me now, if it's as good as the PVA panel, I'll be happy.

There's nothing wrong with this HP 2207 at all but as a TN panel, there is no comparison (IMO).

I was reading the 2209WA, 22″ has a new variation of the IPS panel, the E-IPS LCD panel. This is a cut down IPS panel that is as cheap to produce as the TN panel.

Im gonna get this in a week or so.I just dont have the cash right now.

I was also looking at the HP LP2275w S-PVA 22" LCD and i also heard that HP has fixed the problems it was having with the LP2275w but then i saw this and i love DELL monitors and their premuim panel replacement warranty.I dont think anyone has a better warranty

Ive had both types of panels in my Ultra Sharp 2007FP's and imho i think the S-PVA looks a little better. But i dont know for sure because i didnt calibrate either one.I just left them at factories settings because they looked great that way

So i think as soon as my Hanns G gets back from RMA im gonna sell it and get this 2209WA.The Hanns G is to frigging big for me anyway.I do love it but i dont have enough desktop space

I don't blame you a bit. I probably would have done the same and ordered this model as well had I not already ordered the one I did - about $300 in price difference, which means you could buy two for the price of a single 2408WFP. The top end Dell LCDs are probably the best made - barring a couple of really exclusive and expensive other brands.

If this had HDMI and the other, slightly better, base. I'd probably send my 24" back and just go with this one!!

It looks nice but I still would prefer a 20" IPS over a 22" IPS, given that they're both 1680x1050. I guess pixel count, and especially DPI matter a lot more to me than size.

true but after just having tried out a 23inch 16:9 aspect 2048x1152 rez screen that has a pixel density of 9350px/sq inch i realized that thats way to high of a pixel density.... and if you calc it out a 20inch 1680x1050 16:10 monitor has a pixel density of ~9050px/sq inch so its very very close to the same...

a 22inch 1680x1050 is right at 7350px/sq inch and is much easier on the eyes ... thats why alot of people have gravitated twords the 22incher as well as i have... i tried the high rez small screen thing but honestly theres a point where its too much... 22inch is perfect.

either way i rly hope this dell panel gets some good reviews cus it seems bloddy awesome on paper and design.

Matt,

I certainly will. I am not a professional monitor/LCD tester at all but if you know looking at IPS/PVA monitors compared to a TN, you'll know with your eyes very easily. If my eyes see it and like it, that's all I care.

Well, given that I have spent around $2000 with Dell in the past, if they are giving discounts over the phone, I think I qualify.

Really, my only issue with monitors, and the reason I want to try an IPS, is backlight bleed. The current HP (TN) I have, is horrendous. And I have tried 3 of them. All the same. Zero dead pixels, but massive bleed. Its too bad, because overall its a great picture for a TN.

In fact, every TN I have un-boxed in the last 2 weeks, on my quest for a good monitor, has massive bleed. That covers Acer, HP, Samsung, and Hanns-g.

My 7 year old 17" Dell LCD, never had any bleed whatsoever, and still has no dead pixels. Which from what I have seen over the past 2 weeks, leads me to think I should seal it behind glass and sell tickets. I don't know what brand panels they use, but they are the best Ive seen.

So I'm definitely going to try the 2209W at this point, in hopes that it wont be as bad as what I have seen. I think hoping for no bleed whatsoever is no something I simply have to remove from my thought process.

A friend of a friend actually bought 4 of these last week for their warehouse. Got the first one today, and I drove over to check it out. They actually got them for $189 per.

I don't know, its ok. Colors and black levels don't seem any better than the HP I have now.Angles are good, but not much of an issue for me at home anyhow. It also seemed to suffer from just as much backlight bleed as any TN I have unboxed, which is most disappointing.

For all intensive purposes this shouldn't really be an issue any longer. The industry has been putting a good amount of resources towards eliminating it as much as possible.

This woman is getting the other 3 tomorrow, so I plan on driving out there again to see the rest. Im hoping for better.

If I can get it for $200 I might still, but certainly not at $300.

I mean Ive unboxed 9 different monitors in around 3 weeks, and all of them were terrible. I find it hard to believe people simply live with this:

Mr. Goodbar,

I don't think you are taking photos of the same monitor from Dell. Look at the power button location. The 2209WA isn't even with the bottom of the screen like your photo. It's below the bottom edge.

Where do you see backlight in my photo? There is none on this one, nada, zero.

No reason to get all bent out of shape, pal.

The monitor shown is not the Dell in question. Never said it was. Its simply indicative of what I saw in the last month. And I wonder how people give good reviews to monitors that perform like that. I wonder if people even know any better.

From what I have seen today, and from the reviews I have read, the 2209WA also has light bleed issues. And it also doesn't perform nearly as well as it should for $300. People are seeing some very odd things while calibrating this monitor using professional software, and in the end are questioning whether it is even an 8-bit panel now. Essentially the entire reason for spending the extra coin...

Yeah, its an IPS, or actually an e-IPS, for $300, but its still $300. And considering you can get a 22" for half that these days, well...

Since the $200 deal appears dead, its simply not worth $300 in my eyes.

Oh, if it makes you feel any better, here is a 2209WA with plenty of bleed:

It just might be a 6 bit panel, there has been a lot of talk of lowering the price of IPS panels by making them 6 bit.

I'd really like to see an in depth review.

These E-IPS panels are the same price as TN panels................WHY!

MrGoodcat,

My post was not meant to read antagonistic to you, if it appeared that way you have my apology. I was in a similar situation as you with a newly purchased HP2207. There was nothing wrong with it but I could see a big difference when it was sitting side by side with my Dell 2007 1600 x 1200 PVA. The more I looked, the more I wanted something else so I bit the bullet and tried this one. It's a big improvement and it should be.

Fortunately my son wants my HP (at a steal of course) so I'll sell it to him and I won't have to wonder what am I going to do with a perfectly new and nice HP 2207 and the money I laid out to get it. Value and improvement is in the eyes of the beholder I guess and for me, I made the right decision and I sweated bullets over it. :)

Dell calls it e-IPS, and for the price it can't be a true S-IPS, so the question is, what is cut to make it an "e-IPS".

WHAT?! why is this monitor so expensive? It's so big and bulky too!

MrGoodcat,

My post was not meant to read antagonistic to you, if it appeared that way you have my apology.

Yeah man, no worries. Maybe I read too much into it. Whatever, over and done.

After scouring the internet, and becoming fairly convinced this was an 8bit panel, I decided to buy one myself. And Im glad I did, because the one I received was perfect, and it is indeed better, worlds better, than any TN I have seen.

So cheers to RollingThunder for pointing this out to the OCF, because I wouldn't have discovered it otherwise.

Just as a side note for those who might not know, you can indeed get these on sale, still. I got mine for $238 shipped. If anyone is still interested you can order from these sales reps for around $220:

Sundi Sylvester: direct phone 512-946-0852 Or dial toll free 1-800-901-3355 ext 9460852

Angela Smith: 1-800-456-3355 ext 9460376

@Munchie: I wouldn't call it big or bulky at all. The panel depth itself is a bit more than average, but nothing crazy. The build quality is phenomenal all around. As far as what it is missing, it is missing a polarizer.

Somebody on another forum claims that they were to be packaged with a business class desktop, but it never happened, so they have a sizeable stock of them to sell at discounted prices.

Mr GC,

I am pleased you are pleased. I didn't want to appear a "fanboy" for this monitor. I didn't get mine for the sale prices you mentioned, I jumped on it as soon as it was available but it's all the better for those that had some patience and were able to take advantage of the "insider trading."

When you have a chance, would you check your "pull-out" service tag card on the left side?

which person did you speak to to get it for 238 shipped?

I spoke to a, Ivana Sandoval. I can give you her number if you want. Just PM. Although the two reps I mentioned above are selling them for $219 shipped. And they said it was OK to post their info apparently.

@RT, Im confused now. On the service tag I don't see Planar, just Plano, so Im guessing that is what you meant? Plano is 'flat', in Spanish.

But when I get home I will check the service tag to see if it matches. I would worry though. And dont worry about paying more than the 'sale' price. Its worth $300, and more.

For every $10 under retail they sell them for means 1 dead pixel. So nd should have about 5 dead pixels. Still not a bad deal.......... :D

Ahhhhh... I see i see. And about the price, I thought it was expensive because I remember seeing someone posting the price and they used a comma instead of a period, so the price looked astronomical. It was something like 254,87 or something, so I was thinking why the hell is this monitor so expensive, hahaha. Thanks for clarifying!

Yeah, its blue, orange-ish when in standby/sleep.

Its a small LED, and doesn't distract at all.

@nd4spdbh2

I cant believe its taking that long. I got mine two days after ordering. I'm in Chicago, and it shipped from Nashville, but this has to be a supply problem in regard to your shipment.

Called Dell. Tried a few of the phone numbers but couldn't get through - left one message but wasn't returned after 24 hrs.

Called their sales line and placed an order for a 2209wa. Made sure which model it was, had him repeat it to me three times. Got it for 249 + free shipping.

Got my order confirmation number. I was curious so I looked it up online. Ends up as a 2208FP.... hrm? Called 'Customer Service' and they said they can't do anything, forwarded me to sales. I talked to Sales and they said they can't do anything and I should talk to the Cancellation department. (Side note: Any company that actually dedicates an entire department to canceling orders may want to rethink a few things...). I actually asked the guy in sales about switching my order to the correct item after he had to read off this thing "...be warned that Dell is a custom computer supplier and orders may not be able to be canceled after an order has been placed....". He said he couldn't switch anything and I actually had to cancel my order then go through the ordering process again.

So I talked with the cancellation department and they canceled my order. I got a Quote Number from the sales rep I talked to so I called back and asked the price. The guy told me it was 299. I said I wanted to get it closer to 200. He said ok and hung up on me. :screwy:

Not really impressed with Dell right now.

A little OT, but has anyone heard any more word about the 23" version of the panel? I've been holding off on the 2209WA because I want full 1080 res, but the only news I've seen about that panel is that one month-old Displayblog article.
