I've got a 22" 1680x1050 monitor right now that I've had for about a year. (Chimei CMV 221D) I'm thinking I'd like to go bigger and also use it for a HDTV as well.

We've got some 32" LCD monitors at work and while they are nice, they are a little small, for what I'd like, and their resolution is a bit low for the video card I have (9800 GX2). Most of the 42" TV's I've seen that are 1080P are 1920x1080.

I've got a budget of about $600, and I've seen some go on sale for that price that didn't look too bad.

So, I guess what advice I'm looking for is what models/vendors to look at, and things I should pay attention for when I'm making a purchase. Oh, and I do game.

Thanks!

Bump...

Even a 'check this guide out' would be appreciated.

Probably not getting much response because it looks like you already have a good idea of what you want, and what you're willing to pay.
40" or 42" is a good size - 1080P is a must for the resolution. 3 or 4 HDMI ports is a big plus too. Just try to find the best deal you can really.. Major brands like Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Sharp, etc.. are probably going to be tough to find for $600, but you might find a somewhat 'off brand' using a decent screen for $600.
Personally, I'd shell out the extra dough to buy a mid-to-high range Samsung. I recommend them so much because I've had three and they are always at the top of the best LCD review lists. cnet.com has good reviews - don't pay much attention to the user reviews though.

Perhaps this one? http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-40RV525U-40-Inch-1080p-HDTV/dp/B001EK3KI4/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1233233919&sr=1-12

It's a Toshiba, which are also good, and the price is right.

Or here's a Sammy, but it's a bit more - http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN40A550-40-Inch-1080p-HDTV/dp/B001418W2C/ref=dp_cp_ob_etk_ce_av__title_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1233233919&sr=1-12#

I did see that. And your other post is the kind of information I was looking for. While I have seen a sub-$600 42" on Newegg, it looks like they don't have any currently, and I don't remember the brand. But if I'm going to be getting one in the next month, it looks like I need to look at $800 as my working range for a decent one.

I was hoping to catch the post-christmas price drops, but it looks like they might be another month or two before they really start kicking in.

Oh, and Rich'[ard]? The only places I can find that Samsung for sale under that model number are Aussie stores. And I know ~$2K isn't in the budget for me. Not if I want to remain married. ;)

might be some Superbowl specials this weekend - definately look at all the standard B&M stores.

I'm not sure how much this helps, but I use my 42" Sharp Aquos in the Lining room on my main rig and my 52" Aquos in the bedroom on the g/f rig and they are both great monitors/TV's
