I have a good 21" Sony Trinitron CRT, but with the recent drop in prices for 24" LCD monitors I'm thinking of getting one. I wach a lot of movies/shows on my PC and do a lot of gaming. I knew that movies look better on a widescreen LCD, but I was always weary about gaming. Lately, I've been playing all my fav. FPS on a friend's 22" Dell LCD and it was damn smooth to say the least, even though it ran at only 60Hz.

Therefore, I need some opinions for a good 24" LCD monitor which will be used for movies and gaming (FPS mostly). I can get the Samsung SyncMaster T240 for about $300 CAN so I am leaning towards that. However, if there is a much better 24" monitor for close to the same price, I am all ears. I will also be getting a GTX 285 soon if they drop in price, or maybe a cheap GTX 280, so 1900X1200 gaming should not be a problem.

According to digitalversus and xbitlabs, it is still good but not the knockout the T220 is.

It is still one of the better ones, but not the best. It does consoles quite well.

I'm a fan of the benq g2400wd/v2400w (same screen different enclosures and stands).

I have the T240 and it is by far the best monitor I've owned thus far. You will be quite pleased with it if you want to put up that kind of money. Not only is the screen up to standards for gaming, but the case/stand is the same style as expensive big screen Samsung LCD's (Touch of Color Series), and will seem a lot more natural to watch your Bluray Movies from than a very monitor-looking display.

Only thing is, the jump from 21" to 24" is not going to be all that dramatic of a transformation for you probably, and will take that $300.00 out of your pocket. After a while you may realize that you would rather have that $300.00 back and just use your old monitor again.

Meh I went from 19" to 22" wide to 24" wide and the 24 is noticable increase even from 22.

To me anyway, 1920x1200 is desktop perfection price/performance atm =)

How do your black blacks look? near the bottom of my screen, the blacks sometimes show a little darkbluish backlight instead of pitch black :( i dont know if this is the case with every monitor around $300 or if its just mine.

Maybe its my color settings...

I've been doing some more online reading and realized that the Samsung 2493HM is actually a better monitor than the T240. Can anyone concur with that statement?
