View Full Version : Viewing angle?

I have a minor annoyance when viewing my monitor.

I usually have my eyes on the center of the screen horizontally and vertically, and my monitor at a 10 degree tilt.

When I change my eye level to the bottom of the screen I can see color bleed and fade at the top of the screen. Is this normal? What exactly does a 170 degree h/v viewing angle mean?

This happens on both of my samsung 2232GW monitors, but I didn't notice it on my Hanns-G HW191D

That is typical of TN panel LCDs, theres nothing wrong with the monitor. Some TNs are far more susceptible to it. To be honest, I don't know how manufacturers measure their viewing angles, but if you see one listed at 176° or 178° its probably a MVA/PVA panel.

Can you recommend me a monitor that has a good picture for watching television programming with an angle of about 35°? I really don't know what samsung's 170° viewing angle comes from, so I drew a quick picture to illustrate:

I love the response time and contrast ratio of the 2232GW but I can't stand that if you are not exactly 0° with the monitor you will see fading and bleeding.
