TOSHIBA REGZA 32" 1080p Full HD LCDTV w/ Cinespeed - 32RV530U (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889253134)
ok well im planning on finally getting with the times and getting my first hd tv. i want to do it right so im going 1080p. other than that though im pretty much lost when it comes to this stuff. i have a tv picked out but im not sure if its any good or not. newegg reviews i usually take with a grain of salt so i figured i would inquire the brilliant minds of ocf. here is a link (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889253134) to the tv im looking at and wondering if its any good. before anyone goes off saying where i can get one cheaper please realize that the only reason why i may buy a tv is because i just got a new cc with 0% interest so if i cant find one i like there i probably wont buy one for a bit longer. thanks in advance.
As far as I'm aware the Toshiba sets are pretty good for the money. I like the Sony and Samsung units as well - although you wont get a 32in 1080p Sony (unless the US models differ from the UK ones) you can get a 32A5 or 32A6 1080p Samsung.
LG seem ok as well - I'm using an LG 32LG7000 as a computer monitor at the moment (1080p of course).

another note i plan to run both my computers on this tv once i get it. the htpc will be used almost entirely for watching movies which im sure the gts can keep up with but will it handle mild games at such a high res? im sure the 9800gx2 should be able to handle anything i throw at it???

sony and samsung pretty much use the same panels for their tv's - the toshiba's are nice too, but sony and samsung really have a lock on the LCD market. Might throw LG and Sharp into that list too as quality units.
For the $$ Samsung is great. Sony a bit overpriced because of the Sony name. I've seen some nice looking Sharps and LGs - haven't looked much at Toshiba, but have heard some good things about them too.
My last two have been Samsungs - I'll gladly buy another when the need arises!

If you buy a Samsung, buy this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102221
This one is extremely good too - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102228 but is considerably more. For the $$, the one above is almost just as good, for quite a bit less.

that first one you linked was the samsung i was considering. is it worth the extra $60? i see it has one less hdmi port after a quick skim which doesnt really matter as i only need two. decisions decisions.........

I saw the Toshiba is sold out on Newegg, but they do have one in stock on Amazon.com.
In all honesty, both of these are probably equal in performance. I trust the Sammy a little more because I've owned a couple of them, but the Regza's are supposed to be Toshiba's top 'o the line HDTV. Might check out avsforums.com and read some reviews - you can also get ideal calibration settings for both - and you'll want those! Folks over at avsforums are completely detail oriented and typically have very good advice.

no sweat mate - geeks.com has it too! I've purchased stuff from them and they're also pretty good. Price is cheaper, but once you add in shipping it's prolly about the same as newegg and amazon.

Hey looks like that toshiba you were looking at is getting phased out - might wait and see what replaces it, but it might be more $$ since it's a new version.

Samsung and Sony make their panels in the same factory. In my opinion, as you said they pretty much own the market in quality and quantity.
OP, if you go with the Samsung I'd spend the extra money and go with the 650. Another option is an XBR6, which is probably what I'd go with because we've had Sony TVs in our household for as long as I can remember (and don't really have anything negative to say about them), but it is a bit more expensive. We almost ended up with a 650 this past fall but ended up with a Sony W instead due to the sound (It also looked like Samsung's QC was a little questionable as well, although imo their picture quality was better.).

well i finally made the move and ended up with this. Toshiba 40" 1080P. 40RV525U. havent gotten to play with it much yet but so far everything loooks great. Im guessing this is a regaza as it shares the same part number as the one i was looking at before. they are on sale now at TD and Compusa for $699. i picked mine up at my local best buy for $749. ill post back once i get to play with it more to let you all know how it performs.
