My monitor is in a permanently fixed position and it's a pain in the ass to get it out. Tomorrow I'm going to take the monitor out so that I can add another conector to it (Has a vga input and dvi input). I'm going to plug in a dvi connector and I'm wondering how a standard monitor would react to 2 things being plugged in at once. Will it refuse to work if 2 things are connected? Is every monitor different?

Given a situation where the vga cable is connected to the monitor but to nothing else, and the dvi cable is connected to the monitor AND a computer, will the monitor think that something is still connected and give me problems?

Should work just like a TV, ie just switch the input (from analog to digital) and you should be in business.

Are you connecting 2 different computers to one monitor? IF so you may want to look into a KVM switch to make things even simpler.

Actually the KVM switch, IMO would make things more difficult. I would rather just unplug and replug the cables rather than have a seperate piece of hardware sitting on my desk. Space is an issue for me.

I will have to use that though if I can't get this to work. I would think it would work like a tv except, tv's have a choice between video 1, video 2, etc. I don't believe my monitor has that option.

Thank you for the reply. I hope you're right.

Most monitors with VGA and DVI inputs have an option in the OSD to switch from analog to digital. I haven't seen one that doesn't, but it could exist
