I'm getting my LG BD Burner/HD-DVD reader today. I'm currently using a Viewsonic 2025vx 20.1in widescreen LCD, but I noticed it's not "HDCP" compatible. Will this cause a problem? On another forum they are praising the Benq V2400W. Is that the way to go? I don't want to get anything better than 24-25 in display that's HDCP and blu-ray compatible since I don't have that much room on my desk for anything bigger. It would be great if it's cheaper and still displays great.

HDCP allows you to go straight to the monitor with HDMI, if you don't have HDCP, you can't do this.
Not sure if you can run it through another device like a receiver to fix it.

HDCP protected content may still play on the monitor, but at a very reduced resolution. I would definitely get a 24" monitor. The resolution of it will likely be 1920x1200, which covers the 1080P Blu-ray content. I have a 24" on my pc, with a PS3 hooked into its hdmi port, awesome setup. Also, HDMI is essentially DVI with audio.

Which 24in LCD do you guys recommend? Preferably at a store like BestBuy or Costco that won't hassle me about exchanging a monitor with dead pixels.

why are 24" monitors so expensive!? it would be nice to game at a higher resolution than the 1680 by 1050 that i am currently gaming at, but, i also like to have food and a place to live...
reasonable trade off i guess...

I'm not up on current models, but stop complaining about price. Less than a year ago my 24 was $600. When shopping.. You'll see that some are far cheaper than others. These are usually 'TN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twisted_nematic)' panels that offer faster response time but have poor viewing angles. Even a panel that claims 170° viewing angle can fade to black if you drop your head five inches. Do the background research.

I don't even know what HDMI really is and I have watched tons of Blu-Ray on my PC.

Well I just got my drive delivered to my work and just waiting to get home and install it now. I have a Viewsonic 20.1 2025vx or something like that which I bought about 1-2 years ago. Hopefully it will view the blu-ray movie I bought yesterday. If it doesn't, I have this (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11289082&whse=BC&Ne=5000002+4000000&eCat=BC|79|2341&N=4001382%204294908729&Mo=14&No=3&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=) Samsung in mind. Is that a good monitor?

Without digging in any deeper, the first thing I noticed is that's only a 720p set. I personally wouldn't buy one that isn't 1080p, especially if you're going for quality and are dropping coin on a Blu-Ray drive to be able to watch HD content. That said, I haven't seen a 1080p LCD smaller than 32", which may or may not be bigger than you'd be comfortable with for a computer monitor :) The price would be significantly larger, that's one thing for sure.

I would not buy that monitor, at least not at that price. I just got this Samsung (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001275&Tpk=T240), and it's cheaper. The monitor is beautiful, not one dead pixel, HDMI, HDCP, 20000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio. If the monitor you linked to is in your price range, then look into the one that I linked to. If you're going to also use your monitor for HDTV, then there is a version of the T240 that has an HDTV tuner for $50 more. I think I am going to buy a BD player just so I can watch them on this monitor!

That one's not going to hit 1980 x 1080 either. Don't now why they didn't go just a bit to a 1980 horiz pixel count. For some reason tv and monitor's are treated differently although the purpose of each is growing closer.

I just checked newegg and the monitors don't jump to 1980 until you hit a 30" and they are 2560 horiz count and many thousands in moolah. Yikes. check TV's.

AnyDVD HD Allows you to watch movies over a digital display connection, without HDCP-compliant graphics card and without HDCP-compilant display.

Huh?
1080p is 1920x1080. A monitor with max res 1920x1200 can play 1080p. I'm confused about who you were responding to

Just installed my blu-ray drive with AnyDVD HD and plays the blu ray movie I bought without any problems. It looks kind of crappy compared to the setups I've seen in stores though. While I've ordered a lot from NewEgg in the past, I'd rather buy from an actual store as it's easier to exchange if I get a dead pixel or 7. Anyway I was searching through BestBuy and found this (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8734426&st=samsung+hdmi&lp=5&type=product&cp=1&id=1201307760095) Samsung with all the right cables. What kind of video card should I get to go along with this that's pretty much equivalent to the Asus 8800GTS 640MB one I'm using at the moment. My power supply is a Corsair HX620 so I think it can handle the load of a new video card.

I bought both the 24in Samsung and VisionTek 4850 last night. Set up the monitor to the video card using a dvi-to-hdmi adapter. WinDVD 9 HD still complains about region codes though when I tried to play a movie I bought. The only way around it is to use the AnySoft program. I thought I should be able to use WinDVD 9 HD with no problems since all my equipment is HDCP now?

Hmmm PowerDVD 8 is complaining about the disc in my drive isn't supported?!?
BTW, I love the low profile of the 4850. Makes doing crossfire easier without losing slots. This is the first time I had to install drivers from the cd-rom that came with the videocard since ATI's website didn't have any drivers for the 4850. And the display on screen is sexy. Heh.

ATI 4850.
I second that, there is no better card in its price range.
Have you tried the (Combined community codec pack)?

The Ultra edition works with blu-ray apparently and it did when I played my movie.

Is the region for you DVD drive set? Check it from device manager -> right click on drive -> properties. I havn't heard of it needed to be set, but it might be a simple way to fix it
