K, so I got my new Acer 19" LCD Widescreen in today and it's beautiful, fit's what I'm working with perfect. I like my screens to be very bright, but not all washed out. What image or program can I use to set my brightness/contrast so that it looks "correct"?

What kind of video card do you have? And you don't have settings built into the monitor? I know some do have locked contrast but brightness is a must!

8800GT. Yeah it has the controls for it but isn't there like a picture or a program you can run to define black as black and grey as grey? Get what I mean?

There's a DVD known as avia guide to home theater, that includes all of the video test patterns and instructions, as well as audio test tones for speaker calibration if you want to go that far. It'll work on a PC just the same as a TV.

That said, you could probably find images of test patterns and instructions through creative use of google.

The nvidia control software has built in controls and test patterns. I have actually used them to calibrate my HDTV when i was having green blacks!

I used it to calibrate my dual monitors.
