It's a toss up between these two, I google translated a Korean review of the Benq, they gave it 9/10, a very detailed review too.
If I get the Samsung it will be for the 3yr no pixel defect warranty, and take my chances with what panel I get.
Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.
Another possibility is Viewsonic VX2235WM-5 2MS
Samsung is $397 Aus
Benq is $369 Aus
Viewsonic is $325 Aus

Hello,
i own the BenQ X2200W and would recommend it. I have an extensive review in German, didnt have time to write one in english yet :)
Nothing to complain here, Perfectmotion is interesting if you think the monitor's 5ms are still not fast enough :) I am surprised the BenQ is cheaper than the Samsung you listed there..so i woudl defintly get the BenQ.
Cheers,
Georg.

Thanks for the reply. I had just about made up my mind to get the BENQ anyway, for one thing I still play many old games and The X2200W supports 4:3 and 16:9 modes in the menu, whereas the Samsung doesnt, which means I would have to rely on The image scaling options in My video driver, which is hit and miss.
I also found out it uses the AUO panel, which is better than the Chimei I likely would get in The Samsung here in Australia.
Could You post a link to that German Review, as I used Google translation on the Korean review and I could make sense out of that, I know for a fact German is much easier to translate than Korean.
I saw on a Engish review at "trustedreviews" the benq retails for 299 pounds, and even at 200 pounds Sterling that is a lot dearer than Australia.
Even my English relatives refer to it as "ripoff britain"

A bit of digging, mainly thanks to Anandtech's excellent LCD forum thread has turned up that the Benq x2200w uses the AU Optronics panel
M220EW01 V5
Currently also used in Dell SP2208WFP, which to my knowledge has a good reputation as a great screen, although the Dell also uses the Samsung LTM220M2-L01, which I think is same as 226bw.

you can ask me anything you want.
if there is ANYTHING to criticise then its that the built-in presets are 100% and totally unusable - its important to adjust brightness (maybe colors also) if you manually turn on "PerfectMotion'.
P/M induces a 60hz flickering and darker picture - thus you want to set your brightness to 90!
The builtin modi all have oversharpening/weird contrast...as well as false colors. (yellow turns greenish)
If you do NOT use the built-in game settings and just additionally turn on P/M then you dont have any of those problems.
I also dont recognize the 60hz flickering with activated PM in any games, but its certainly nothing you want on your desktop.
Monitor has VERY intense colors and scales/interpolates great, UT3 or Crysis in 1440x looks beautiful, 16:9 DVD material is displayed right with two small bars top/bottom, thus with the right aspect ratio and no distortion.
In non-native you have the option to display "full" or "aspect" whereas full scales/interpolates to screen size and "aspect" keeps aspect with black bars.
No artifacts/lagging with "AMA" (which is overdrive) on which i have on as default. Results in 2ms reponse time gray/gray.
Monitor is as fast as any current very fast gamer monitor (5ms b/b 2ms g/g) NO coronas, artifacts or whatsoever. IMHO monitor is fast enough also without "PerfectMotion" but PM is an interesting option to have.
Miss freely configurable presets, eg. i would LOVE to have custom preset where i adjust PM, brightness and colors and could save as preset. So i could activate the right gaming settings at a pugh of a button. Dont like OSD and constantly adjusting of brightness after i switch on PM. PM definitly improves response times about 100%, eg. using "pixperan" i can see clear at speed "4" and with PM on i can see a clear picture at twice the speed. Its a choice whether you want PM on and you think that the flickering doesnt bother you (it doesn't bother me in games) - but its nice to have the option and knwo its there.
Monitor didnt have any stuck pixels at all.
Service Menu:
Hold MENU + ENTER and turn on monitor. Then with "Auto" key you can see the service menu and panel information. (Yes its an AUO). Dont mess with other settings in service menu tho :)
I am 100% happy with my purchase! Wish something like fortemanager and more control (presets). Builtin Modi are useless. (IMHO)
