I've noticed a lot of smaller 16+ms monitors going for over twice the cost of some bigger 8-ms monitors. Is there really that big of a difference in quality between monitors?

generally speaking tn panels have faster responce times then the other panels. TN is cheaper to make but in most peoples opinion tn offers an inferior quality compaired to other panels. Another reason that a higher responce time monitor sells for more is that it might be older stock still not sold out. Monitors have always been declining in price so older monitors tend to have a higher MSRP. Yet another reason is the way in which the responce time is measured dell for example uses grey to grey where as generally a half cycle method is used which drops the measured responce time in half on paper only.
Basically if you are looking for a monitor post up the monitors you are looking at so more specific info can be given.
Different resellers use different ratings, some use grey to grey and some other standards.
e.g. a Dell 16ms grey to grey might be better than a 12ms other monitor...
p.s. CRT's :attn:

dell's higher end stuff (2007WFP and the like) all give you W to B times... not G 2 G
