So I got this moniter http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001096&Tpk=226bw
because its pro especially for the price, but I can only place the plug in the analog port, when I try to place it in digital the screen goes blank. Is this a common problem? Can it be fixed?

Check the display for a button that allows you to select from analog or digital input.

I do not know what you mean? I went to a display menu via the buttons on the bottom of the monitor but I saw nothing that would allow me to change it from digital to analog

Don't have that monitor but:
There is a button that says "Source", press is :)
The default setting is D-SUB.
P.S
Did you look at the manual? What does it say?

I had the exact same issues with SM2032BW. Only analog worked, and with DVI my comp. stuck at post @ 2d.
I had this situation:
-DVI only, no matter which exit on card do not post
-analog both exits= no problem
-analog in one exit, and DVI in other=post but only analog
I was quite confused, i did not know that monitor can make comp to hang on post (i was more worried that my 8800gt died, but when i hooked it back to my old 17" SM740BF it worked like charm again), so i looked in about zillion forums, newsgroups etc. and there are all kind of "solutions" for "no DVI signal". And i tried them all without any success.
And at the end, i decided to RMA mine next day and took SM206BW, for now no issues at all.
If i pay for something, i do not wanna halfproduct, i do not care about their "lack of panel" problems due to fast sale etc.
Now i was lucky to buy this in store where are employees are lazy like hell. So, when i get back monitor, the guy (who is so slow that it hurts) just hooked DVI in monitor, when he saw "NO SIGNAL, CHECK YOUR CABLE" he gave me new one without any questions asked or any further testing :) .
Unfortunately it was last one 2032, that's why i took 206 ( i like the design of 2032, that's the reason why i insisted on that one, but basically they are the same)
For the end, my advice for all of you having problems with DVI on LCD ( it is not just Samsung, all brands have that problem), do not crack your head trying to solve the problem, just RMA it. If you pay for something it must work as it is speced.
The manufacturers these days are extremely cut their expenses by moving their facilities to 3rd world countries, that move also cut the quality of products. But i think that is not our problems. Our guilt is only
because we are buying like crazy without too many questions asked.
"No dead pixels, great, i will buy it" , and they are taking advantage of that.
Well that's my 0,02$ about that issues.
Take care.

were you running a 2nd monitor at the same time, a second display?
my 225bw would go blank and i thought it was locked up but it some how swapped primary displays on boot up with my 19 inch lcd that was not turned on at the time.
i think its is video card related
if you or any one else runs in to this problem try turning both monitors on when booting up
I have the exast same problem.

No, i just plugged both cables at one point of desperate experimenting. But i tried monitors one-by one.
Old 17" SyncMaster working no matter what i have or haven't plugged in graphic card, but with SM203BW i stuck at post at 2D if plugged at DVI .
My recommendation to all with similar problems, it's your money, and it is only plug&play device, not some atomic physic thingie, so RMA it. It's not worthy your nerves.
I am sure it's not driver or BIOS problem, i flashed-reflashed both, graphic card and mobo BIOS, also tried several drivers. It's not cable problem, tried few of them. It's just cheap mass production issue.
And if you think of all people which won't bother (because it's working analog), or even do not understand what are they buying, those people will never complain (and that's majority of customers), then my "conspiracy theory" have some logic in it  .
Samsung (and not only Samsung, most of LCD manufacturers) for sure is aware of problems, but they simply don't care. And they will not care as lon as they are in big +++++ with $$$$$.
I am sorry for my pigeon english :) , it's not my native language.
After the Montior Driver installed, DVI worked fine.
Plug it in with VGA first, install driver. Shutdown. Plug in DVI. Unplug VGA. Start computer.

Then you are the lucky one, i tried old and new monitor drivers (strange, but drivers from CD are newer then from their site).
Replaced new (sm206bw) monitor is working without drivers.
But, i am glad that at least your problem is solved.

Not Sure which OS you are running, but on Vista64, I did a check for updates, it found the 64bit driver, did the update, shut down, and whamo DVI worked.
Hey, perhaps the first instance of something in Vista64 working when it doesn't in the 32 bit OSs? :p
EDIT: I should note I have the 2232BW

I'm having the same problem here except with a different monitor. HP W2207H. I did some googling and there's far to many results and all of them don't sound similar to my experience.
My monitor only has VGA & HDMI outputs. So I used a HDMI to DVI connector, HDMI end to the HDMI output of the monitor and the DVI end to to DVI output of my 7900GT. I ran my pc in safe mode, this connection worked. But after reformatting my pc and installing the z-tweak drivers, it does not want to run on this connection anymore. It prefers the VGA.. hehe. I uninstalled the z-tweak drivers and DVI works. Now the problem is I don't know what driver to install for this card that will work with the DVI connection. I think it's driver related issues.
