I'm in a market for new monitor and looking for something in around $600 price range. So far I have been using my 37" HDTV as primary display but 1280x720 isn't cutting it anymore.

I've looked around the web and came across Gateway FHD2400. I read tons of reviews about this one and all of them have nothing but good things to say about it. It has all the inputs I'm looking for, HDMI is a big plus cause I'm most likely going to hook up PS3 to it to watch Blu-Ray movies and play games. Only thing that I dislike is the silver finish on the bottom. I've used white monitors before and whenever I'm gaming in dark the color stands outs vs black monitors where you only see the picture.

That's where Dell 2408WFP comes in. I've just recently heard about this one but when I looked at Dells site I couldn't find it. I would go for 2407FP but the lack of inputs is a big downside for me. I didn't see many reviews or previews for that matter for Dell 2408WFP, but I've seen brief descriptions. It has better specs then Gateway FHD2400 but not sure how much it costs.

Let me know what you guys think :)

note: it has a DisplayPort & HDMMI :) I give it till may and it will be out.

I would say it has alot of inputs.

I'm actually on the phone talking with Gateway right now about my 4th FHD2400. These things are absolutely terrible when it comes to backlight bleed, all 4 i've had have had bleed 1-2" on each side of the screen. I'm determained to get a good one. the colors and vividness is so so nice. back light bleed is by far the worst I've ever. EVER encountered. the viewing angles aren't too bad for A TN panel, and I don't notice any ghosting what-so-ever which is damn nice.

But the backlight bleed is actually so bad it will invert the colors on the top and bottom part of the screen so any color turns a VERY vivid silver. all 4 have been like that...they start out with a little, then just explode

I like the Gateways for their soft menu system. It's the only LCD that I know of that system that makes adjustments intuitive and easy.

I haven't compared panel quality to the Dell, though.

Well finally made up my mind and I decided to go for Dell SP2208WFP. I just couldn't bring my self to pay another extra $200+ for 2" of screen. Yea I don't get the 1920 x 1200, but in all honesty I don't think I would ever use it to its full potential anyway. 1680 x 1050 is more then enough for what I need.

There seems to be a lack of reviews out there for this monitor since its fairly new, but from what I was able to gather seems to be good. One big plus for me is the HDMI input cause I might be plugging in PS3 to this screen and try running converted 1080p. It can't do native 1080p due to lack of resolution, but there is no way you can take a real advantage of 1080p itself with monitor thats bellow 37" cause the pixels will be to cramped up. I read from one of the forums review that it converts quite nicely form 16:10 to 16:9 res with PS3 and HD formating. I have 37" LCD HD screen that I use with Xbox360, but want to keep the PS3 on my desk. I know that may seem like a stupid decision to some of you :D

Anyways I ordered it with the next day shipping so will be getting it on Monday most likely. I'll keep you posted.

I think 1080P on a small screen is fine, just don't expect to enjoy it from way back on the couch. At 18" -24" its totally fine. I'm about to buy a 1080P 24" lcd for pc gaming and a PS3.
