Hullo thar ocf.
Fist of all, right at this moment, i'm sitting behind a 21" CRT screen, wich i'm partly satisfied with. It's however not getting any newer with time, and due to some friend advices i finally decided to give flatpanels a try.
I've been reading alot of stuff about LCD's not being usable for gaming and all, but after looking a little bit deeper, it showed that most newer TN panels are quite ok, and generally are better when it comes to higher resolutions. Saying that, i won't call my preferred resolutions high, as i usually game on 1280x1024 (due to only 3GHz 6600 Conroe, 2x 1GB DDR2@800Mhz and a GF 8600GT) when i need top performance in an FPS. Due to hearing that LCD's are not too keen on upscaling/downscaling i still am a bit uncertain, but i allready decided to get a new monitor, so i need to go the whole way.

Right, i've been looking around on some forums, and this (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=158012) thread here inspired me to get a HP Pavlillion w2207 22" (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824176079) screen. I went as far as actually ordering the screen allready. Weirdly enough though, right the day after i ordered it, the online store i ordered it from suddenly lost their stock of w2207's and set me to wait 2 weeks more to until they got them again or something. I became upset and canceled my order, but still haven't got my money back, but that's another story.

So, after looking around for a bit more information about hat screen, i found out that pretty much every computer store here in Denmark has suddenly replaced their stocks of w2207's with slightly pricier w2207h's, which i can't really find any information about. So, having virtually no idea about what's going on, i started looking for alternatives.

The ultimate alternative i found yesterday, was the Samsung SyncMaster 2232BW 22" (http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/spec.do?group=computersperipherals&type=monitors&subtype=lcd&model_cd=LS22PEBSFV/XAA&fullspec=F). It looks nice, has specs on par with their other new monitors, and is a bit cheaper.
Ironically enough, i couldn't find any user input about it either, again probably because it's a newer model or something. The specs look pretty well and all, but i'd still like to hear if it has any noticeable input lag, backlighting leaks, color/brightness shifts towards the bottom, general looks and all that stuff. Being used to playing fast paced FPS' on a CRT, i quite possibly can't cope with much LCD input lag and stuff like that.

So, what'd ya suggest for a picky wit like me? Are my assumptions on those 2 screens correct, and should i go ahead and buy one of them? Please hurry, i really want to be playing Portal and HL2: Episode 2 on a shiny new LCD.:)

First off, :welcome:

Secondly, I am looking for an LCD myself atm, and am trying to decide between the Samsung 226BW and the Samsung 244T. If you are just in the marking for a good 22" gaming LCD I would suggest the 226BW. I am looking into the 244T because of the 8 bit panel instead of the 226BW which has 6 bit + dithering. (Aka the 244T shows the 16.7 million colours natively/naturally)

i think you should re-order the HP. i have it and love it. I dont notice any ghosting at all, no backlight bleed, no dead pixels, and the stand is really adjustable. The colors were amazing right out of the box, and i still havent had to adjust any settings.

i want to know what the difference is between the w2207 and the w2207h

edit: just noticed that you mentioned that the stores dont have them anymore

that panel is only 6-bit (16.2 Million colors) LOL!!! also not HDCP compliant not to mention the inferior contrast ratio vs the w2207 HP glossy panel.........700:1 (westy) vs 1000:1 (hp w2207)

About to purchase either the HP W2207h (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF06a/20491-314293-314303-314303-314303-80720291.html#reviews) or the Samsung 2232GW (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,138852-page,1-c,monitors/article.html) and stumbled across this search.

I've done some research and in response you the original poster's question what the difference is between the HP w2207 and the HP w2207h is, well, there is only one. The w2207 uses a DVI connector as opposed the the w2207h which uses a HDMI connector. But I've read that the w2207h provides a HDMI-DVI adapter, however it doesn't work/doesn't work properly and people suggested you are better buying a HDMI-DVI cable (costs money) rather than running an adapter.
Has anyone had the Samsung 2232GW before? I think it's a 2232BW with a glossy panel. I couldn't view a Samsung 2232GW and a HP w2207h side by side, but I've seen the HP w2207h side by side with a 2232BW and the 226BW.. the HP wins hands down. I've read some reviews on the 2232GW, but all they have to say is that the viewing angles and the colours can't be compared to the PVA panels which is not a fair comparison to me.
At the moment I'm leaning towards the HP, and if I can find the w2207 rather than the w2207h I would buy it.

I just bought the Benq x2200w, and I'm really impressed, no dead or stuck pixels and uses AMA to overdrive the panel to run at 2ms (as all 2ms monitors do), works a treat, great in games and movies, uses a AU Optronics panel, M220EW01 V5. My only complaint would be that the preset colour modes suck, I just created my own and it works beautifully.
Another big plus is that it does a perfect job of scaling 4:3 only games and also 16:9 movies, everything is at the correct aspect ratio.

Between these 2 i'd say 244T. It's great at gaming too... pricey though.
226BW is a TN panel, faster but if you plan to see movies then it's just as any other TN panel.

I just thought I'd throw in my vote for the HP w2207. I bought this thing back in April of May of last year and I do NOT regret it... the thing is fantastic. Wonderful color, glossy screen, perfect for my PS3 gaming and computer gaming alike... I love the amount of real estate... I'm so glad I purchased this monitor.

I'll also say that when comparing in store it was just so much better than any other monitor. When I brought it home I was not disappointed whatsoever.

I have the HP w2007 and I suppose it's just like the 2207 except mine's 20" and the picture is awesome. Upgraded from a 19" crappy brand CRT that was going out and the difference was remarkable.
