Ok, there are a lot of variables here. My first LCD cracked, it was the one that came with the laptop. I bought a lg-phillips LP154W02, which is compatible with my laptop. I installed it with some difficulty (the metal tags don't fit at the top), and it booted up.
I'm using the inverter from the first, cracked screen. I'm not sure what the inverter does, but when I remove it, the screen is really dark. This is my issue: I cannot adjust the brightness, not in bios, not in windows, not through the drivers, not any way, anyhow. It's not super dark, but it's not even close to how bright the other screen was.
I don't know if its because of the inverter or what, but it's not too pleasant using this. There's not a lot of information available about inverters and my specific panel, so I thought to ask you guys.

What exactly does an inverter do?
