i wasnt sure where to post this so if this is not the right place i guess u can move it.

i bought a vizio 37" VW37L and i was playing with my ps3 display settings and i selected 1080p and i clicked test to see what it would look like and i was amazed that i got picture. now the tv supports 720p and 1080i according to the specs but if i got picture at 1080p settings does it mean the tv can do that? i dont wanna set it at 1080p and find out an hour later my tv breaks LOL.

i know this is a vx32l thread i just didnt wanna make a new thread just for this question. can u guys help out? is it ok to run at 1080p even though specs says 720p and 1080i?

1080i means that the TV will display an interpolated image - i.e. it can read a 1080 image, but renders it to 720p resolution.

So the 1080i certification means that the TV can read a 1080 signal, even though it cannot display such a high resolution...

As far as I know. I might be wrong...

As I understand it, 1080i means you will be able to handle a resolution of 1920x1080, but you will only be able to achieve half the frame rates. Instead of 50-60 times per second, the image will refresh only 30 times per second because it only does half of the screen at a time. This will result in more flicker, but the TV can use the higher signal. I certainly don't think you're endangering the set by using 1080i mode, and I don't think you can actually run 1080p with that model. I've actually been looking at getting the same display, how do you like it for your PS3 games?

"To compare 1080i and 1080p, it is important to compare framerates. Due to interlacing, 1080i has twice the frame-rate but half the resolution of a 1080p signal using the same bandwidth, although, also due to interlacing, 1080i looks to be the same resolution, although with more flicker. "
