I have a Samsung 245BW at work and I'm liking it but I wanted to see what my options were for the homefront. This monitor will be used for gaming, but I'm not super-concerned with response time as I'm not a hardcore FPS player or anything (as long as its not 16ms or something I'm good).

My biggest concern is color accuracy and dot-pitch / sharpness.

S-Video or other TV type inputs are a plus, but not required. Good computer use is priority.

$500-600 is my range unless there's a very important reason to go over.

Thanks!

I believe he meant 1920x1200, as that is the resolution of the Samsung 245BW.

I am also looking for a monitor in this range. Preferably 24" or smaller with 1920x1200 resolution (for 1080p support if I choose to playback high-def video).

Right now Samsung 245BW is my top choice, but I would also like to hear other people's experiences. I'm interested in anything as long as it isn't too expensive (245BW is $500ish so not too much more than that hopefully.) and has a DVI input.

dell 2407wfp. Get it refurbished. Better quality control and cheaper plus you might be able to get a coupon on ebay.

Samsung 245T PVA Panel Wide Gamut or 245CW TN Panel Wide Gamut would be an upgrade path from your 245BW. Dell 2407 isnt a choice ATM with the wide spread issues being encountered by the people using them that have purchased the new wide gamut panel. On a non Samsung choice the Iiyama B2403WS would be another monitor to consider.

My vote goes to the Dell 2407WFP, but if you're consittering the HC (only version available), you might want to check these two threads I made first:

Is the Samsung a TN panel? Or does it support the full 16M colors without dithering?

The 245BW is a TN panel. I'm not sure about the others.

What's the difference between TN and other panels? I'm a little confused about that.

TN = Good for gaming, fast response time,

And the others are ugh... like better color reproduction + other things.

I Went with the samsung 245bw and I absolutlely love it. Its soooo much bigger than you would think. Its extremely bright, all the colors look beautiful. No ghosting whatsoever. I never did bother to research all that TN panel business, but I went with the samsung because it fit my budget. I think I got it from newegg at like $420, it was worth every penny. Next summer once corn season rolls around again I'm going to buy another. And then a 37" 1080p westinghouse, and its going to be nuts.

The problem with the 245BW is it's lack of 1:1 mapping. This means I can't play my xbox 360 at 1080p on it, which is a major letdown. In hindsight, I should have spent the extra on the 245T.

There is also a lack of inputs for my liking... But I shouldn't complain, the price was right.

Where can you even get the 245T in the US? From searching around it looks like a Euro model?

What happened to the BenQ FP241W? I recall deciding a few months ago after heavy research that this monitor was the way to go based on a large number of factors, but the money-to-buy fell through...

The BenQ's main selling points that separate it from the Samsung are inputs - Component, S-Video, and HDMI. The HDMI is why everyone got all hot for it.

Oh and it's nearly $700 vs the 245BW at ~$400. If you only need a computer monitor the extra inputs don't help, but if you want an all around gaming screen and HDTV the BenQ would be an excellent choice.

I know NCIX stocks the 245T, atleast I know they did at some point. They likely still do though.

Technically, the 245T is a better monitor for color accuracy, but an article I read claimed it needed to be calibrated upon installation. Supposedly, it was the worst of the bunch coming from the factory.

It's an interesting review. May or may not help with your buying decision.

I got the 245BW. A local shop had it on sale for less than web prices and there's a $20 rebate. I don't need to spend another $200-300 for extra inputs I'll never use :)

As for color accuracy that would be nice, but when I had a perfectly calibrated CRT everyone would complain about my pics being overexposed on their screens since the average user runs waaaaay too bright. Oh well, it's good enough.

FWIW, I would buy the 245BW as well. Better bang for the buck.

i went with the gateway because i fell in love with the interface (touch) and the multitude of inputs. i've also heard a lot of horror stories about various monitors with dead pixels, weird sounds, etc...so i paid for that 3 year protection plan at best buy. Oh yeah, bought it using air miles so it was a good deal.

i've had it for 6 mo or so now. i'm extremely pleased with it's performance for typical computer work and movies. i don't game so can't comment there.
