Turns out Sony will be the first to market with an OLED TV. Too bad its only 11" and costs about $2,000.

I remember seeing a picture of these screens through some CES roundup of pictures and they look amazing. I can't wait to see a full size HDTV with this.

Yea, the new OLED TV technology is going to be good.

Didnt Toshiba show off a large oled screen last year in its prototype stage? think they said it was $65k or something.. Could be wrong though.

I don't know. The only OLED tv's I've seen were both from Sony the 11" they are releasing and a 27" one as well.

Swear there was a 20" as well at that show that they where showing off next to that 27"

They did look great. Is there any downsides to them currently?

I was at best buy the other day and witnessed probably the best picture quality ive ever seen, Samsung has a 1080p LED backlit LCD out now which has amazing black levels and is one of the newer 120hz panels, The tv was located in the Magnolia theater section at BB and it was in a DARK room which is normally where LCD's show there weakness in the black level department ..but with this tv I was seeing extremely deep black levels, they were displaying various 1080p movie clips and the picture quality was just beautiful, Its about time something like this came out, to bad it retails for 5 grand but once you see it in action you'll realise why.

I wonder how long this tech will take to find its way into more usable sizes

Looks nice, but any word on whether they've resolved the issues with the sub-5000 hour lifespan of the blue OLEDs? I know there are some new techs being developed that're supposed to solve that, but I couldn't find any reference to whether Sony is using any of 'em.

These are rated for 30,000 hrs. Not as good as the typical 50,000 hr rating for most LCDs, but I would still call it sufficient.

Raises hand.

Parents have 2 thats... minimum 7 years old. I have one of the older main TV's in the house when I lived there and thats 11 years old if not mistaken.

So guess I don't own personally 1 TV thats that old (wait got a mini TV VCR Combo I got..) Ok maybe 1 thats that old. Even then truely 10 years is more than enough.
