View Full Version : Really need a good LCD recommendation
I'm looking for a 24" 1920x1200 lcd for under $600. I would like to know what you guys think is the best monitor that fits those perameters out there. I've been looking at Samsung, Westinghouse, LG, and Acer. What do you guys think?

Any reason you skipped Dell in your search? They go on sale for 550 every now and then.

Dell is a thought. I've always heard they have nice monitors. But I was always under the assumption that they used Samsung panels.
A concern I have, and I know pretty much nothing about this except for the little I've heard, but I heard that samsung uses "tn" panels which causes some problem with angle viewing, and that the newer tech is "ips" panels? I don't usually see anything in a spec about a monitor that says this. What could you tell me about that?

Pretty much every 24" monitor out there is a pva, which really is fine. you are right, tt's the tn panels you want to avoid, which are most commonly found in the 22" screens. I own the 24" dell and theres no problem with viewing angle whatsoever, since its a pva.
Some even arge that PVA is better for general use, like gaming and movies, because it typically has a lower response time than an ips, which is known for slightly better color reproductions.
But like I said, pretty much every mainstream 24" is pva, unless you get into the milti thousand dollar professional screens.
I'm kinda confused. Do you mean that some people argue that "tn" are better for general use and gaming, and that all 24" are "tn" panels for the most part? Your first statement said all 24's are tn, and then your last statement said all 24s are pva, and you had said stay away from pva.

he never said anything about any of that...
he said that pva's are the best for general use, and he said to stay away from tn's, and that pva's are the way to go
and most 24" are pva

lol, yeah. the edit makes a lot more sense, and makes me feel a lot better. I just went ahead and bought a Dell 2407WFP-HC which is a pva panel, and should be a thing of beauty, from everything I hear, for the price point, it's the best there is.

Well, you beat me to it, but at least you ended up getting the panel I was going to recommend. I'm sure you'll enjoy that new toy, have fun with it.

I'm hoping it turns out to be a good decision. I saw where someone here posted some negative things about it, mainly a lot of ghosting after purchasing two, and said he was sending them back. I'm hoping he was suffering more from buyers remorse than actual problems with the monitor.

lol, even I thought I had gone crazy after I reread it. You must have edited it really quickly for it to not show a time stamp on it. Good thing I had the original in my email for my sanitys sake.
