View Full Version : SAMSUNG 245BW Black 24" what do you think?
I'm thinking about picking up one of these monitors today. Trying to find out what the general consensus is on Samsung. I know they've gotten a lot better rep recently with LCD tech. Has anyone had any experience with this monitor and what could you tell me. What other monitors would you suggest in the same price range with the same resolution and size?
Have a look at THIS REVIEW (http://www.behardware.com/articles/677-1/the-samsung-245b-the-1st-tn-24-tn-vs-24-pva-mva.html) & that the difference of the B & BW is only the glossy finish of the bezle & the screen. The 245T (http://www.behardware.com/articles/680-1/lcd-24-iiyama-b2403ws-samsung-245t.html) is also something to look at.

Wow, that was an awesome site. So it looks to me like it goes "tn" -> "PVA" -> "MVA"
The viewing angle is definately sub par on the 245BW. The 245T definately looks impressive, so if I were to get a Samsung I would wait for it, although I'm not sure it is going to have as nice of a price tag as some of the others, especially when it's trying to compete with the BenQ monitors.
It seems to me that they are very high on Dell, specifically the 2407WFP. My original desire for the Samsung 245BW was that it is carried locally at Best Buy. I think now I may end up giving the Dell a hard look and deciding whether or not I want to wait on a wide gamut monitor from them or take the chance that it's pricing won't be near as reasonable and buy one now while they are priced fairly low.
"Correction" It looks like Dell actually has the HC models out currently and are only around $569 USD.
Well I just bought the 2407WFP-HC. I couldn't find much of a review for it on that site, but it does seem like it is a very solid monitor from some of the comments made in comparrisons. I guess we'll see. "crossing fingers"
The Dell 2407 WFP-HC seems to be king of the hill at the moment but there is slight ghosting which I think will always be an issue with any LCD no matter what the response time. I've been researching 24" widescreen LCD monitors but almost every model has some sort of flaw.

You know, maybe my eyes just aren't good enough, but I've never actually seen any ghosting on any of the LCD's that I have, my laptop or my 19" Sony that I've had for about 5 years now. I know that it has been said that some people are more attuned to see to ghosting than others.
That might be true as well. Anyways I hope you enjoy your new monitor:beer:

I got 2 of these on thursday, sending them back tomorrow, according to dell they are looking into a new revision or a firmware fix. I can assure you that its not a slight ghosting problem, on both my september built panels i experienced ghosting, sometimes up to an inch long depending on the brightness of the object on screen. Take a look at Mobius' thread for proof, my cellphone camera cant capture it because it sucks.

does it seem to be affecting all or just some of the panels?

the vast majority are affected, some people claimed to have non ghosting panels.
Does the 2407 have RTC? That maybe the only finetuning that Dell can do with their firmware to get the ghosting "fixed".

Well I added the 5 yr advance replacement warranty to the monitor. That should help out if I have the same issues. Its a good thing if dell has actually acknowledged that there is an issue.

This thread has a lot of info on the 2407-HC situation. Give it a good read and maybe contact the Dell CSR in the thread if you have problems.

I'd like to know as well. I'm also in the market for a 24" LCD and sadly the 2407-HC is no longer an option for me

I saw one of these at BB (might have been a 245B), but the one I saw had HORRIBLE viewing angles. If you weren't dead on eye-level with it the brightness was completely messed (go above, it gets washed out with white; go below, it gets shadowed in black). I dunno if the 245T does it, but from the looks of things (in the reviews I've seen) the 245B and 245BW do it. That's my $0.02.

Extra $0.02: there's always the 2407WFP NON-HC (A04). They're still kicking around in their un-opened retail boxes in a lot of places.

PS: unless they're not labeling them as such, I believe Dell is selling the 2407WFP with all their XPS desktops (not the HC version). Ironic much???

I thought about that. But there is no way for me to be sure id be getting a non hc version. I even toyed with the idea of getting the 30" HC (I haven't heard anything bad about them) but i need 2 monitors of equal size
I have a 245BW and the times I have used it (hooking it up to my neighbors laptop) everything seems to look awesome. The screen is bright and clear. I have yet to use it extensively but as soon as my parts for my comp get here ill be sure to let you know what I think of the 245.
I've been using the 245bw for a week or two at work, it's looking good. As for viewing angles, in reality you're not going to be using the monitor while standing up, then suddenly decide to sit on the floor and look up at it :) It's largely a moot point.

You can get the non-HC 2407's from outside Dell with the same 3-year warrantee attached (that's at least what I'm doing).

Yep. I think the only arena where viewing angles are a factor is a living room tv
