Newer games you should still be ok up to 1280x1024 on high-max settings (based on my 7900GS and Bioshock). As for what monitor to get...?
What's your budget? Do you want WS or 4:3? Do you do anything else or is gaming the primary focus? If you want to play new games at 1440x900 you might want to up your video card too.
budget is under $200 and 4:3 should be ok, this is my gaming rig and personal use pc.

$200 price cap - 19" LCD
Hmmm hard to say. Matbe stick with a brand like Samsung, LG, go to BB or CC and take a look at some of the models there. Up close is the best review ;)

There's a link to a bunch of models that meet your specs. Look up some reviews etc... see what looks good? At that price you are not going to get anything amazing IMHO.
The standard ratio 19" has the same resolution as the 17" LCDs. I would step up to a 20" like maybe the Acer AL2017 (Westinghouse also has a sub $200 20"). There is also a ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q20WB widescreen at newegg for $180 after $20 mail in rebate.

Probably a much better LCD than what you'd currently get new for the price.

the acer looks nice and widescreen is nice also but im worried about my card not handling bigger resolutions i cant upgrade gfx card for a while.

As I said before any new games you will have to drop your resolution and/or lower game settings (i.e. Bioshock). But your 1900xtx is better than my 7900GS so you might get away with more eye candy. On games like FarCry, HL2, FEAR I can run at 1680x1050 no problem with settings cranked so you will be able to as well :D
