Hello all, I'm a Flight Simulation developer and I've ordered a high-spec PC with a Samsung 305T 30" LCD monitor to do some testing with FSX. I want to see if I can run FSX across two monitors at 5160x1600.

Before I invest in a second 30" monitor, how tricky is it to get FSX to run across two monitors at that 5120x1600 resolution? I have tested with a TripleHead2Go analog and it works fine because FSX sees 3 LCDs as a single 3840x1024 monitor.

Is it a matter of simply editing the fsx.cfg file to force the resolution? That would be a simple solution - however, does FSX see the dual monitors as a single display?

Also I have ordered the XFX 8800 Ultra XXX overclocked to 2350Mhz - I assume that card has 2x Dual-Link DVI-outs so it can drive both 30" monitors at 2560x1600?

Just hoping someone can clarify before I invest the $$ in the second monitor :)

I think the max vertial res is 1200 on the tripplehead2go with two screens but I dont know if both versions allow that or only the digital version. There is no way that you can get a horizontal res of 1600 like you want IIRC.

Due to the resolution cap 3x 19" lcds are your best bet if you want an ultra wide resolution. The digital version, and possibly the analog version via firmware, allows 2x 1920x1200 widescreens to be used instead of the usual 3x standards. If I where you instead of getting another 30" get 3 19", the 3" should cost significantly less then just one more 30", and run it off your tripplehead2go. Also this allows you to not worry about looking at the panel of two lcds as your center of vision as with 3 monitors the central space is in the middle of the second monitor.

you could try the stretch mode on your 8800 without the tripplehead2go and see how that goes but as I dont own a 8800 I dont really know anything about it.

i dont think you will have any problems spanning the desktop on a 8800gts or what not but with that res i think 2 HEAVILY ocd 8800gtx's with a 3.4ghz quadcore probably wouldnt be nuf to run at good frame rates.

But go ahead take some UBER huge screenies... im only running on 800x600 so it would take me bout a month to look at the screenies lol.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I already know that FSX runs very smoothly on a TripleHead2go with 3x analog monitors, so I don't need confirmation of that :)

I was mainly looking for feedback from anyone who has tried FSX on 2x 30" panels with an extended desktop spanning 5120x1600 resolution.

I was curious about the performance myself, so I tried it with 2 24" displays.

3184x1400

to be honest, I didn't notice any change in performance from the single screen. With most of the graphical settings on HIGH, AF, and 4x AA

This is on a 3.7GHz e6600, 8800-gtx stock, 2GB ram, p5W-DH.

To enable both monitors, Nvidia control panel was set to SPAN desktop. After loading into FSX, 3184x1400 resolution became available and automatically scaled both screens.
