It's about 3 years old.
When I woke up this morning I thought it was off , but actually it was on.
The screen is really , really dim. You can barely see the start bar and the mouse icon.
I tried connecting it to another rig and it did the same thing.

Would this be cheap to fix? it's for the internet pc , so the quality of the monitor doesn't really bother me.

If I didn't fix it , I could buy myself a new monitor and move the acer 19' lcd , that I use on this rig , over to that one , but it would take alittle time to save the extra cash as I am already saving for a new rig on the 22nd.

Is it just the signal from the computer or can you access the screen menu and is it dim as well? It could always be that someone changed the brightness.

The screen menu is dim as well. I tried auto-tuning it and that also did nothing.

Power-cycle the monitor

EG: Turn it on and off by the power switch a few times, unplug it a few times, and auto tuning doesn't do brightness just the screen size:P

If that doesn't work, if it's a CRT hit it on the top.

It sounds like it is an LCD, and the backlight is dead.

Disconnecting it worked. I unplugged it from the power for 10second , booted it up and now it works. Thanks for the info.

Ok , I guess this monitor is on it's last leg.

It gave me no problems for the last month. But it started doing the same thing , I did the unplug it method , and now when I plug it back up it comes back to life for only 3-5 seconds. Then dies again.

I tried the "technical tap method" [ beating it around for abit] and no luck.

Anyway to fix this monitor? or it on it's last dieing breath?

Sounds like it is the backlight...seen this happen to my friend's laptop...it was so dim..he opened the back panel and used a lamp behind it.

I'm not sure if its repairable, but if you're in the market to get a new LCD, nows the time to get one.

If you feel comfortable enough, try opening up the LCD and look for any loose plugs.
I don't recommend doing this to a CRT, but perhaps an LCD is bit safer?
