View Full Version : ATI HD2600/2400 Review
On Anandtech,
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3023&p=1
Basically, the 2600/2400 are quite slow compared with the 8XXX NVidia cards.
The REAL review that we are all waiting for, UVD vs PureVideo, is expected next week, per the last page of the review.
I'm sure either LandShark or I will post a link as soon as its up, and have an order in just a few minutes later! :)

yes, I'm eagerly awaiting for that review! ;)
Here's one HQV test which the 2600 comes out on top of. I'm still looking for anything with HD content, but nothing yet.

a sort of "small review/preview" of what HD2400/2600's video performance!!
http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1122&pageID=3622
imho, it's not "that" complete test!! no 8600/8500 cards, no full detailed HQV (SD & HD) tests. but that should give you some "idea" at least along w/ power consumption, while we are still waiting for some more detailed test!!
p.s. I think I'll get a HD2400XT for my bedroom htpc client (a shuttle SFF) since it use the least power (thus least heat) and produce (so far from one review) pretty much the same video performance as the HD2600XT. plus the HD2400XT should cost <$100!!

LOW PROFILE FTW!! well, dunno if you can really call if low profile, since only that one corner is missing, but hey, extra space anyway.

Its safe to say that if you're not interested in home theater (or low power), ATI and NVidia's so-called mid range is not worth buying.
I'm still waiting on the Anandtech review! Damn you, Lal Shimpi!!! :-)

HD2400PRO is $60 at newegg right now.. and it only has DDR2 :(
but it looks like ill be getting a 2600XT if its under $150, it beats the 8600GT but barely.
Damn, I can't pull up the article at work. Have to wait until I can get home. :(
Hopefully it will be compatible with my Maze 5.

I am waiting for the Sapphire HD 2600XT Ultimate Edition (http://www.slashgear.com/sapphire-introduces-the-silent-hd-2600-xt-ultimate-edition-255435.php) to become available.
I will use this along with a Corsair HX520, P5B Dlx, E6600 under Zalman CNPS 9700 (or passive...the chip I got undervolts GREATLY and gets sub ambient temps on a 3ft bong with TT pump and block), 320GB Maxtor SATA, some sort of SATA DVD burner, 2GB Corsair XMS2 PC6400 and I haven't decided on a case yet. I have to find one that will fit that Zalman in it.
I might add an X Fi, but I don't know if it is needed. I will hopefully be able to get a 42" HDTV a few months from now, until then I will just use my current regular TV.

yeah, looks like if it's your main HTPC, I think the 2600 is a better choice too. oh well, I got the 2400XT, and since it's just for my bedroom (which I don't watch it most of the time).

i thought i would pop this in here, as im a tad confused. you will see why in a min.
http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/X2400-8400/hdplayback.php
now notice the chart says lower is better but yet he states the ATI one does better then the NV card. Im tring to compare the 2 yet seeing the chart vs what he says makes me think, he is smoking something.
*edit*
god i was totally reading that review wrong... so the ati does use less cpu. well looks like for a low cost solution the 2400xt it is, though i could just oc the pro to xt speeds.
I think for a bedroom client, the 2400 would make sense. It would have a smaller screen, possibly further away. The minor advantages the 2600 would have wouldn't be noticable in those conditions. I think it would take a 50" screen to regret getting the 2400, and if you could afford a 50" screen...
well i decided to stop waffling and order the MSI 2600xt (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127298). i'm rebuilding my htpc, anyway. i'll post my results once it all comes together.
