Can an LCD go higher than it's native resolution? I have a Syntax Olevia 32" with a native res of 1368x768. I was wondering if it can go higher? If I try 1600x1200 or anything close to that it fails to display the whole desktop.

No, the only way to display a higher res is by panning.

I can set my 37" olevia with the same native res to 1920 x 1080. It will display, but downscales it, so its hard to read.

So I guess to answer your question, yes, some, but it's not recomended.

As you found out no it's not possible in the same as a CRT. LCDs want to display pixels:resolution as 1:1. If the LCD is built to display 1680x1050 than that's the max and best setting. You can display lower resolutions but you lose the 1:1 and will get fuzzy text etc...

Edit: OK as Roboto says it is possible on some but with bad results so what's the point?

Would you mind sharing your 'advanced timings' settings to get it to work? You have an nvidia card too so hopefully your timings will make it work on mine. 1920 x1080 doesn't work on mine at all.

I dont think I touched it, but I'll check it out when I'm on my htpc later tonight.

EDIT, I just ran up and checked. All I did was slide the resolution bar up to 1920 x 1200 and it works. I didn't have to go into the advanced timings. It can run both 1920 x 1080 and 1920 x 1200.
