I was over at the local computer rehabilitation center with a few friends, one of which was picking up an old laptop for mobile programming and I saw a thing of beauty, a 21" Dell trinitron monitor. I bought it on the spot for $35 and had to use a dolly to get it to my car with out dropping it, as it is both ridiculously heavy and awkward. This monster runs at a native 1600x1200 and produces vibrant, life like, colors. This made my day, I thought I would just share that.

I did have a long deliberation as to which monitor I would remove (the 17" LCD or the 17" CRT) but realized that I can not fit 3 CRTs on this desk.
Does anyone else have something this large in CRT?

I have a 24" CRT back at college. The thing is a beast and is widescreen as well although it was not fun to move the 93 pound monstrosity it out of the dorms to a friends house for the month that I am going to be away for.
The 24" crt I have is a Sony Trinitron GDM-FW900 and runs native 16:10 1920x1200 @85hz but can go higher. It has BNC and vga so I bought some BNC to VGA and BNC to component so that I can run my computer and a xbox 360 or another console at the same time via an imput connector.
sorry no pics as I am away from it for a month or so.

 Wish I could find something like that, its gotten a lot harder to find large CRTs locally.

I'm still running my old Sony G520, a 20" Trinitron flat-screen that I've had for quite a while now. Still runs fine.
That Dell was steal for $35  - this monster cost $700 (on sale - $800 street) when I bought it. I've thought about adding an LCD as a smaller, second screen but I don't think I want to give up my CRT just yet ... :)

Is that a Dell P1130? I got one of those. They rule, plus I have a 24" Hitachi from the early 90s that still works great. They are huge beasts but great tamed monsters.
I used to have two of those Dell P1130s until they both conked out on me. £40 each from ebay.

The only problem now is that if I get an upgrade for the two monitors flanking it I will need to put my computer some where else. I do love the way that when it turns on it sounds like you may die.

LUCKY... i would like a bigger monitor but i cant STAND for lcd's ****ty refresh rates... as i absolutly hate tearing thus i run vsync... 60frames per second doesnt cut the cheese. my dell 17in crt will do 1024x768 @ 85hz which is nice. but i use a macbook pro 17inch and it has a res of 1680x1050 and the difference in realestate is amazing./
I got my Sony g410 hooked up next to my LCD. I like the LCD colors better usually, but the picture is better on the CRT. It's so hard to choose...

24" Sony FW900 here going on 5 1/2 years old and still going strong  Max resolution 2304x1440 @ 85hz , Normally run it at 1920x1200 @ 90hz desktop res.
I also have an NEC 20WMGX2 LCD and while the LCD is brighter the CRT just has a nicer more "natural" image overall and its great being able to game in various resolutions & refresh rates, plus the CRT's much better black levels go a long way especially when watching movies.

EDIT: Yes my camera caused the LCD to look way overbright in the picture, It wasnt the LCDs fault.

Great Find OP, that P1130 is a steal @ $35 i can assure you. If you're a fan of high-end jumbo CRT monitors, as i am, then it may be worth picking up another backup from that dealer and storing it for the future. Although they usually last a long time you never know when a CRT will begin to fail.
I currently own a few higher-end units myself, a 22" NEC 2141SB (mitsu 2070SB equivalent), a 21" Dell P1130 (sony G520 equivalent), a 21" Nokia 445Xpro (high end hitachi tube) and have owned other, and since sold, a few 17", 19" and 21" tubes.
I used to own a monitor calibration set (misplaced it) and was in the market for a pantone Huey (http://www.google.com/products?um=1&oe=UTF-8&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-us&q=pantone+huey&scoring=p) or Spyder2express (http://www.amazon.com/ColorVision-Spyder2-Express-Win-Mac/dp/B000ES4PYU/) calibration suite when i found out that a neighbor is willing to sell me his 22" Lacie (http://usb-shop.stores.yahoo.net/lacel22bluiv1.html) diamondtron monitor complete with hood and calibrator set for $50 total :bday:. I had asked him approx how many hours it was used per day and he calculated that it has less than 3000 hours on the unit. He also claims that the geometry, sharpness and colors were as good as can be and that the calibration suite works "perfectly". He's a graphic designer and only used this monitor as a secondary on the weekends, or when he stayed home from work, and never for casual websurfing or gaming.
nice deal but i would much rather have my 19" widescreen at 1440x900 native (max my card can do) but the lcd can do higher

You may be confusing "compatible" with "native", meaning it's compatible with higher input resolutions, but the monitor's scaler scales them down to the native amount of pixels on the screen (1440x900)
Lets also try to avoid an LCD vs CRT debate, LCD's hog up 95% of the threads here, us CRT fans need a little breathing room ;).
And sorry for venturing further off-topic :(

Bought a pallet of 12 21'' Trinitron Sony/Dell/Whatevers, They were packaged roughly but my new setup is pretty sick.

Bought a pallet of 12 21'' Trinitron Sony/Dell/Whatevers, They were packaged roughly but my new setup is pretty sick.Lucky SOB, i had been tempted to bid on those a few times, didn't know what the heck i'd do with them all though :). If you can figure out the model number(?) you might be able to make a pretty penny on the extra ones. Pretty sure the model number is listed on the back. I'd guess they're either the P1130 or P1230, killer monitors either way imho.
Got my Lacie by the way, the picture on it is simply breathtaking. I thought i had seen visual nirvana on CRT's before, but boy was i wrong. This thing is freshly calibrated, i even got the icm file for it. Of course it came with the hood and calibration system as i had mentioned. Going to run a quadruple setup with this Lacie 22", a 22" NEC 2141SB-BK, a 21" P1130 and a 15" LCD for playlists. Good thing i have a large and sturdy desk :)
Don't laugh but i was even considering another high-end 22" Mitsubishi diamondtron for $40 (VX1120 gateway rebadge). I've kept myself from purchasing it by convincing my cousin to do so. He's upgrading from an older 19" shadow mask and pretty excited about the inexpensive upgrade. These high-end CRT's are just so darn cheap on craigslist.
That's a great find. I use an IBM P275 21" Trinitron. I just can't find a way to justify going to an LCD that can have worse picture and dead pixels since I have more than enough desk space.
Trinitron 4-Ever. <3
