Backlight problem on LG L226W - RMA time?

I've only had this monitor a few weeks and now the backlight is messing up. At random times the backlight will go off and as a consequence the screen goes dark - if I look really closely I can still see the shapes on the screen, I can move things around and I see the faint picture changing.

If I turn the monitor off and back on again the backlight comes on again, but will go off again later - not after a fixed amount of time.

The system it is attached to:

Asus M2V motherboard
A64 X2 4200+
2GB DDR800
BFG 8800GTX OC (having problems with this too - see nVidia forum)
Vista Ultimate 32bit
158.22 drivers

So what I'm asking is - do you know of a cure for this? Or am I going to have to waste my time and money sending it back, and go without a screen for a while.

Have you tried running the monitor on another system to see if it is having the same problems>? If your having problems with your 8800 then it could possibly be your system.

I haven't had the opportunity to, but I am pretty certain it is a monitor hardware problem as I can still see the screen image when the problem occurs - it just isn't lit, and turning it off and on again 'fixes' it.
