I REALLY do not want to have to buy a new monitor right now. But it seems I may have to. When I first turn on the monitor I get a flash: the display shows what should be on the screen (I.E. Windows). It lasts less than a second then the monitor goes black.
At first I worried that it may be the video card, but the built in options for the monitor aren't showing up either.
Its odd though, last night I got home from work and it worked fine. Any ideas whats going on here?

I'm confused. "the built in options for the monitor aren't showing up either".
You mean when you try to open the display properties in Windows?
Is this a CRT or a LCD?
FYI: I had a vga cable go bad a few years ago (one of the colors didn't get displayed).

Whoops ~ Its an LCD. 17" viewsonic, got it about 2 years ago.
By "Built in options" i meant... you hit the button on the monitor, the Brightness, Contrast, etc. show up (usually).
They're not showing up. That tells me that its most likely NOT a problem with my computer or the cable, but the actual monitor.

I understand.
Odd, very odd. Is there a way you could "reset" the monitor? If you could is there a "factor default" option?
I don't think it's the video card. Do you have a spare cable to do a quick double check?

Its working fine again now. It seems like it may be a problem with the monitor's power supply. I have to jiggle the power cord in the socket to get it to even turn on, and after more jiggling, it did turn on.
