Just picked up my first lcd (Samsung 906bw) and loving it, but having one problem with setting refresh rate to 75hz. I want it at 75hz because, based on my understanding of vsync and triple buffering, the higher refresh rate will maximize fps in games both when the framerate is higher than refresh rate (obvious) and where it is lower (due to how vsync works). If I'm wrong on this you can correct me.

Anyway, when I set the refresh rate to 75hz, when I reboot my pc, once I get to the windows login screen the monitor is unrecognizable. There is just a chaos of multicolored lines and general distortion that you can't see anything on the actual screen. At 60hz, this doesn't happen. I ended up having to restart the comp with my CRT plugged back in to change the settings back to default, then plug the lcd in again and change it to 1440x900 @ 60hz.

I read somewhere someone having a similar problem but I couldn't find the thread anywhere. Will latest video drivers fix this? I have pretty new ones, but likely not the absolute latest.

Does your lcd support 75hz?

Various websites report that this monitor supports 75hz, but samsungs site says nothing. Its possible it supports 75hz, but not at all resolutions.

It is supposed to support 75hz. The manual says "recommended 60hz, when using the maximum resolution, set lower than this" which doesn't make sense, because the monitor only supports 60hz and 75hz according to the software.

The thing is though that when I set it to 75hz it works fine, it isn't until I restart the computer that it messes up. Does this mean that the setting doesn't take effect till restart?

its lookign like your monitor does not support 75hz at your max res ... this is the same with almost EVERY lcd out there, at max res you get 65hz. the only lcd i kno of that will do 75hz at max res of 1680x1050 is a gateway monitor.
