It's between this two:
Acer AL2251W and Samsung Syncmaster 226BW. I'm more for the Acer as it's developed for gaming. Please advise...

I don't know about the Acer. Is another TN panel. I didn't see a contrast ratio posted on the sites I checked? It's not listed on the Acer site either?
The Sammy seems very popular around here and is probably a solid choice.
Another to consider might be the HP w2207. Some on this forum really like them. I have seen these in BB on a dedicated machine. Crisp and clean, good colour.
If 22" is what you really want then either SS or HP would be a good choice IMO.

Thanks for the link.
A little more research I found this monitor does NOT use the crystalbrite technology boasted on all the other Acer monitors. Which leads me to believe it is just a basic TN, nothing special. On many websites the SS gets good reviews from users and reviewers.
I stick by my OP... go with SS 226BW

You may consider the Acer X222XWdb. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009111 I don't have one, but I am considering it myself as I am in the market for a 20-22" LCD.
Personally, I wouldn't buy the Samsung 226bw because of the complete lottery they have had on the LCD since it came out. Currently, if you were to buy one, there is no way to tell what monitor you received (most likely a "C" panel, though).

Thanks. Crystalbright technology seems to be a boost for LCD's

Thanks, I read that before too. I don't know? I am not convinced about this Acer. Everyone wants a 22" LCD these days but I just can't jump on that wagon. 22" is still 1680x1050 and is TN as opposed to *-PVA or S-IPS. Everyone is sooo convinced that a super low response time is the only factor for deciding on a monitor.
If the 226BW is too much of a lottery than my next choice would be the HP 2207w. I have seen it up close and found it to be a good value with decent picture quality etc...
Why are you leaning towards the Acer? What about this panel makes you go gaga?

Well, the price is the most obvious factor. All the specs look good to me, and it's a newer model.
The problem with the HP 2207 is the price. ~$360+ ($380 on HP site) is a lot to pay for a 22", and if it's glossy, why not get the Acer (The one I linked, not the one in OP)?

Dell 2007 WFP. Don't mess with the 22inch LCDS. All TN's and low quality imo.

Ok fair enough :)
Judging by newegg reviews I would say the Acer x222wdb is a good panel for the price. I think the 2251 you linked to is too new or something cause there are not many reviews out there. The CC website reviews didn't sound too great though
So if Acer is your brand of choice that's what I would go for. But you know for that price... you can get a refurb Dell 2007WFP which is a proven kick-ass monitor!

Acer probably was just a game marketing trick I feel for. Usually I don't go for brands like Acer. I take well known Japanese brands like Sony and NEC.
Probably I will go for the Samsung 226bw C-panel. We got a store over here that accept a 1 month return of the product even if you have used it 24/7 the last 31 day's:beer: . Talk about consumer friendly.
Reading the thread I learn that you can improve the Color of Your "C" Panel:
http://www.andrewswihart.net/blog/review-samsung-226bw-lcd-c-panel
I love my Chimei cmv221d 22" widescreen. fantastic color, brightness, response, no bleed and great price. Go tmine off newegg a while back and last I checked it was cheaper and had a rebate. only downside is that the stand isn't adjustable. if that's a big deal you can get a new stand from office depot.
My vote goes to the HP... I bought the syncmaster 226bw and returned it (crappy panel and it really didn't wow me) and got the HP instead.. Love it!

I actually have a Acer AL2216W here and it works beautifully for me. I got it on sale at my work for 250 and couldn't be happier.
I upgraded from my old 19" crt and this thing is beautiful compared to it and I still have yet to see any ghosting playing BF2, CS:S, WoW, etc.
Hope I helped.

The HP has been on sale at one B&M place (CC, Officemax or Officedepot) for another for $330 at times. I liked mine a lot and for a TN panel I was very pleased, I liked the glossy screen a lot too. The only bad thing about it is some slight inconsistency in brightness vertically, but to me it was actually less annoying than the horizontal color shifting on some PVA monitors and only apparent on certain solid color background websites.
If you can get a place to match the CC $40 off 'moving' coupon which can be found downloadable at various places, or buy at CC, DONT OPEN IT or they'll charge a restock, then pricematch the receipt elsewhere and return to CC you're good for $290+tax.

I am deciding among ACER AL2216WBD ($279cdn), SS 226BW ($379cdn), SS 226CW ($399cd), SS 206BW ($299cdn).
From what it sounds like though the HP 20 and 22" are great. The Dell 20" is great. The Acer is good budget and is okay. It's also 6bit and 8bit dithered, whatever that means.
I will primarily use it for web surfing and photoshop. Is 20 inch enough? The premium going to 22" is quite high.

I do tons of PS, Illus etc.. on my 20" Dell. Love it. It's got tons of real estate. And actually a 22" LCD is the same resolution as a 20" so you are not getting any more real estate with 22".

I replaced my 19" Trinitron flatscreen with the ACER AL2216WBD. (Then put the 19" on my P4 2.4.) The 22 inch is a great monitor. Beautiful for gaming. My only complaint is the stand, which is pretty cheesy plastic. But the image quality, and color is great. Although you don't get higher resolution than the 20", it sure looks nicer if you ever use it for TV or Movies.
Before i got an amazing deal on the Dell 2407fpw 24" lcd, i was on the verge of buying an LG 22". I spent weeks looking at reviews, and went to the store and checked it out. Its a nicer lcd then most, and it got better reviews then comparable samsung models.

I was hoping to see a few nods to Viewsonic. I don't mean to threadjack, but where does Viewsonic stand with Dell and Samsung (and all the rest) in terms of LCDs?

I'm sorry but I see the word TN panel popping all over the place because I to am looking for a new monitor. What does it mean? Sorry for such a n00b question.
Also the LG screens really aren't that bad. I had the pleasure of seeing the 19" SS and a 19" LG side by side and the LG actually looked nicer. I just don't know what to think about them since best buy carries them...maybe they aren't that bad.

I just purchased the W2207. After comparing it against an 'A' panel 226BW, the choice was obvious. I love it! :attn:

To bad NEC doesn't make a 22" monitor! The higher quality one would be AS-IPS if they did!

Below is a quote from another forum page that has TONS of info on LCDs. The post is a few years old but is still very informative. [edit : linky >> http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=71226]
TN panels have been pushed to the lowest response times of any other panel...
TN panels have become the "gamer's panel" for some time because it sacrifices colour representation, image quality and viewing angles for the best response time possible.
Other popular panel types you may see are S-IPS, S-PVA, P-MVA. All of these are generally regarded as displaying better quality colour than a TN.
Monitors in a store like Best Buy are usually hooked up to one machine, not allowing each monitor to be set to it's native resolution and adjusted for best display. It is best to try and view a monitor on a dedicated machine. Not always easy in a big box store like BB. But you can ask.
my HP w2207 is the best 22 and better than all the 20's I ahve seen also, aside from the s-ips and s-pva's maybe

The w2207 is a veery nice display, just be sure to get it on sale for closer to $300 than $380. Glossy screens get put down by many review sites for some reason, but personally I found it to be superior to strong anti-glare coating like Dell's and Gateway's. Better colors, better blacks, and no downsides that aren't common to other TN panels as well. Then again I'm used to some reflection on a CRT.

I have been going rounds looking for a S-panel for the Samsung 226BW. With no luck. But I read Samsung is being affected by angry consumers and reviewers so they are changing it back to S-panel the original Samsung made panels.

I got my 226bw "C" panel today, loaded up the profile from http://www.andrewswihart.net/blog/review-samsung-226bw-lcd-c-panel and the colors seem fine to me. After adjusting the colors, I agree with others in saying that it appears to be equal to an S now.

Nice find for 226bw owners. Did you try all the ICC profiles? Did he just adjust brightness or tweak all the settings for each? Good to know the Spyder2 worked well on it.
Spyder 2's can work great. I use one on all my monitors. I tried using it on a cheapo WS 20" TN (LG L204WTX ) the other day. It didn't work. The RGB gets thrown into lala land :P Spyder 2 even suggests that "some panels" may work better on factory settings. That would be this LG IMO. So I went with a predefined Kelvin setting. Can't remember which one?
...kinda off topic sorry... Anyways glad your happy
I currently have a 21" Sony CRT. The thing is a beut, but I move around more these days, and it's just too big and heavy.
I've been thinking about replacing it, and after much reading, I've decided that maybe a widescreen LCD is what I should go for (I've previously sworn by 4:3, but never had a widescreen).
I want something as big as my 21" 4:3 CRT, so thought about a 22" Widescreen.
I want to play games on it, but I also want the image to be crisp outside of gaming (I do some programming and image work).
This thread seems to be all about the 22" LCDs, but I'm a bit confused. Was a conclusion reached about which one is the best? Thund3rball has been mentioning that 22" LCDs are all TN, which means worse image quality. That doesn't sound like something I want.
>22" is out of my price range, and <22" is smaller than I'd like. What's a guy to do?

i had a 22 inch acer..liked it
sold it for my upgrade but it never gave me any issues
had it for 2 months
I ordered an LG L226WTY off of newegg last night,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005097&Tpk=LG
Was 375 shipped with a 10 dollar DVI-D cable.
I've seen nothing at all about this model, but heard great things about the WT. Those specs do sound great for gaming.
I decided to take the risk and check this thing out, I hope it's as good as it sounds. Pics and a review once I get it
