well, the time finally came to retire my trusty 2405 LCD in favor of something bigger and better. so I decided of course to go with the 30" 3007 HC and give it a whirl. I had actually been wanting to buy the first 3007 that came out a while back ago but I heard that something better was going to be coming out on the horizon so I figured I would wait. I'm sure glad I did because I've seen the regular 3007 and now mine and I can say that there is a noticeable difference in color contrasts between the two. not a huge difference but there is one nonetheless.

okay. enough of this jibba-jabba. time for some "from opening the box to using the product" pics.

nothing much to say in this one other than I couldn't believe how big this damn box was. it kind of reminded me of the box that my 40" Sony XBR2 HDTV came in. heck, this monitor didn't even come from my regular UPS man. instead it was delivered by some sort of UPS commercial frieght rig instead. weird....

carefully unpacking everything:

here's a shot of my 2405 next to the 3007. as you can see the 3007 is just a "tad" bit bigger. :p

some rear label action. some people have been reporting in that they didn't receive the HC model even though thats what they ordered. thank goodness that isn't the case here.

a shot of the media card reader (even though they'll probably never be used).

and last but not least, a somewhat decent shot of some HL2 lovin' at 2560 x 1600. this pic doesn't do the 3007 justice. it looks a thousand times better in person. it's almost like gaming on an IMAX movie theater screen when you realize how big this sucker really is.

- I could sit here and write down a ton of different things but to be quite honest I really don't have the energy right now to do that. I work a ton of hours every week so I can afford all these toys so I will comment on my 30" addition later. but for now let's just say that this thing is awesome and I can honestly say that I got every penny of my money's worth. I highly recommend this monitor to any one that has the means to buy one. I will post some additional pics and maybe some screen shots tomorrow if I get the chance.

You're so lucky, it been over a year and I still can't get half life to work.

The -HC is 92% color gamut, like the 27" Dell right?

Also, just because I'm curious, could you try it at lower resolutions to see how it scales and comment. I'd be hard-pressed to buy a 30" as a pure computer monitor anyway but the other downside to them is the massive native resolution is tough on video cards for gaming.

Looks sweet, very tasty indeed.

man, that shot with HL2 on the display is amazing...the color looks so rich and beautiful! And this is just a picture of the thing....amazing!

Congrats! I hope someday I can get a sweet sweet display like that :)

Guys,

Bare with me, I'm not grahpics or games oriented........... I have a 40" HDTV, what would it look like if I hooked up this computer and graphics card to it? I'm just curious, nothing more.

Do computer hookups show a full size screen this large, 4:3, what?

Well first it would have to depend on what resolution your HDTV is. If it's a 720p, then it's probably going to be a bit pixelated looking on a 40". But if it's 1080p, then it probably won't be too bad. but at 40" you are going to have to sit several feet away for it to look good.

krag has a thread about his new westinghouse 1080p display and he said he has to move it back on the desk because, up close, it looks a little pixelated. On a 40" that will only be greater

The reason for this is that say it's a 1080p display. That means it has a resolution of 1920x1080. So on a computer monitor (say a 24" LCD) those pixels are all very small and packed together on the screen, so things look crisp and clear even fairly closeup ( though even with my dell 2405FPW I had to sit it all the way at the back of the desk because it was so big).
But if you take those SAME amount of pixels and put it in a 40" display, now those pixels have to be much larger and/or farther apart. so being up close, you will notice that. And if it's a 720p set, then that would just be 33% more the case.

Hope that helps a little bit

EDIT: Oh and to answer the second part of the question....your computer would change from displaying a 4:3 display to a 16:9 display. So you would go from a resolution of whatever you have now (perhaps 1024x768 or 1280x1024) to a resolution of 1366x720 (if it's 720p) or 1920x1080 (if it's 1080p)

Nice screen

You have the same graphical glitch on HL2 that my old 9500 Pro did. The Citadel in that screenshot is blue when it should be grey, I bet in game when you move, buildings in the mid distance change colour between really bright 16-bit colours... am I right? Or it could just be that one screenshot that glitched.

I want one of those screens, and with that things native resolution you can really make that GTX do some work :D

Ok, I'll check out Krag's thread.

Mine is a 1080p TV. I think I'm understanding this and from what I've been told, forget about playing any games with this video card, I realize that. I am assuming my video card doesn't project the pixels to fill a 40" HDTV screen or even smaller TVs and that's why gamers want the more powerfull video cards (in layman's terms). It was never my intention to hookup my computer to the TV because of this.

The reason I don't have a better video card is that I'm afraid I'll get hooked on some of these games like CoD. I have seen my son's setup and admittedly I could get addicted to it and I don't have the time to do so!

Thanks jivetrky, you're always helpful as usual.

Geez, Krag has a helluva setup SLI............ !

Well it's not that it can't display the pixels (I'm pretty sure it can display that resolution)...it's just that it can't display those pixels fast enough. So in a game where you want the screen to refresh 30 times per second (or preferrably more) to make for a "smooth" 3d visual, the card isn't able to do that.

EDIT: And yeah, krag has a nice setup :)

i was actually able to drive a 37" 1080p monitor (the one that krag has) for fear and dod:s pretty well with my old x850xt so 100 bucks for a vid card would get you into ok territory

Heh, heh, I'm afraid to get started on this because you know the first video card capable will need an excuse to be found "obsolete" very quickly........... :)

eh...I say upgrade :) get hooked on CoD, nothing wrong with that :p
